BTW I'm working with horizontal coil 808s, not sure that's relevant. I'll check out the vid and go straw shopping, thank you!

EDIT: Just saw the GoGo looks identical to my 808 horizontals in construction. Is there also a center air tube that the coil sits at the bottom of?

I'm a little worried about the dry burning step, wont that scorch the hell out of the air tube/wick?

I don't know about the dry burn on a regular 808 horizontal. I've only done a dry burn very quickly to check the coil.

I only posted for the rebuild part, which I have practiced twice, with no luck. I realized today the importance of reinserting the filler wet so it stays together better but on my practice cart, I've poked the air tube too many times and it's all frayed so, now that I've found the right size stirrer, I'm going to have to wait a few days and try again with a new one. Good luck. Mowhawkx makes it seem so easy.

thanks so much man. I'm gonna keep working on this and report back. did you end up going with cocktail straws, e.g. the skinny red guys? Despite bartending for 5 years in the past I don't even know where to go for those things around here lol

Oddly enough, a few folks have gotten them in bars by asking the bartender for a cocktail straw and comparing it to the center tube size. My center tubes seem really wide so I managed to spy one in a coffee packet I found at a gas station. (Napkin, powdered cream, sugar and coffee stirrer.) They were the exact thickness so I widened it by sticking a q-tip inside and gently moving back and forth. It worked perfectly. However my kr8s are xls and I can only get the stirrer about halfway down before the center tube bends. A regular size is probably less flexible. I'm ordering some reg sized 808s today so I'll be able to try again in a week or so.

By the way, whoever decided a cocktail straw could ever double for a stirrer of hot beverages deserves a slap!

Anyone have any tips on getting the original poly fill back into a cartomizer? Accurately and with an eye to continued use of course :)
Yup! you throw them out :)

I am not trying to be facetious here, but seriously. Cartos are a disposable item, when they quit working, you toss 'em.

what kind of cartos are you using? on what batt?

I am using the kr808 xls and echo carts on an echo battery and a 280mah. (although I don't use the echo cart on the smaller batt because it looks like this: justforfun.jpg that's actually an old 180mah to emphasize the funny but it does work beautifully)

I have a pack of standard size cartos coming because I ordered some new juice that, if they passe my approval (dripped into an atty) will go into a small cart to see how they will taste in those before I commit to using them in a 3ml echo cart.

All the horizontal single coils are built the same with the exception that the center tube may or may not be wider on the ones I own. I'll know more when I get the new ones in. I ordered volts just to see if they are different/better tasting from the Kangers as some have claimed

I totally agree with you however the gogos and echos are 3-4 bucks a pop and are designed to be used for months instead of days. the only thing that gets in the way is gumming the carts. Some have gotten the rebuild down to a science, pulling out the stuffing, rinsing and drying and restuffing in a matter of minutes. I have had good luck with the flush method but you have to wait for days for the stuffing to dry in a 3ml carto

What Charlz said :)

Thank you for the link. If you can direct me to bulk cartos that perform as well as halo horizontal coils or V4l wow cartos (pending further testing, only had them for an hour or so :) ) I'll look into it.

still need to get some straws :)

I know, as a seasoned vaper I always thought I was too well informed to try those "proprietary" versions of the 808 carts but I just got some volts in and I gotta say, they are in fact better than Kangers. Go figure.

Besides....asking us why we bother to take them apart and rebuild them is like asking the adventurer why he climbs the mountain!

I am sorry, no cartomisers are designed with the intent to last months. I will openly admit that carto mileage does vary, even with the same brand. How much was your daily smoking habit and now compare that to a carto lasting let's say a week?

I have gone through refurbishing a carto it never vapes as fresh as a new one. To me it is all about performance, not frugality:)

With respect, I'd like to see a few posts in this thread vanish.

This was a thread about restuffing cartomizers and associated tinkering, not about cartomizer life span. And it was going quite well.

There are plenty of threads regarding the latter subject which beg the question that you're attempting to address, and I do find it interesting. But for purposes of this thread, I couldn't care less what the 'truth' is, its not relevant. Please stop muddying the waters.

Thanks

Cyrus

What I've done is to pull the outer tube off and just wrap the poly around the coil and wires then slide the outer tube back on. Works fine just don't do it too tight or drag will be stiff.

You mean the outer metal casing? how do you yank that off?

Are you doing this with 808 vertical or horizontal coils?

PS: On two experiment friendly horizonta 808l cartos I worked the inner diaper back around the air tub with fine tweezers. Then I cut the poly fill into vertical strips and worked them back in one by one with tweezers. Seems to work, but I couldn't get all of the poly fill back in this way, so the carto holds less juice. Still vapes real nice though :)
