Reversed battery?

Ok I had just changed battery tubes for my mech mod and was vaping it in the car and decided to take off the bottom cap to clean the copper connection when I realized the battery was inserted upside down. I thought this normally does damage to your mod? It was actually firing when i used it so I was surprised but I put it back the right way now. I'm using a Efest 18490, should be ok I hope?

Although there can be dimensional and clearance requirements - where a error in installation might cause a free fire - there are no specific polarity requirements for either an atty or unregulated mech... so electrical 'direction', in and of itself, is generally not a concern.

Most regulated mods will have reverse polarity protection included in the built-in protection circuitry.

Putting a battery in upside down with a Kick in a mechanical mod will fry the chip in the Kick beyond repair.

Taking into account everything the above posters said, the battery should be fine, just don't make a habit of putting them in upside down.

One issue with inserting a battery reversed is a hard battery short can happen "IF" the battery has a tear in the protective shrink wrap on the battery sides. The reason for this is that the metal case(under the protective shrink wrap) of the battery is the negative of the battery. When a battery is inserted reversed the battery tube of the mod becomes the positive part of the system instead of the negative part of the system it is when the battery is inserted correctly.

What battery tube are you using? Why do you think it could damage a mech mod?

A tear in the wrapper, even if the battery is inserted correctly is not good. Better than a dead short but...

If it contacts, you will get an autofire situation. not good if it is unattended.

I had this happen with a chi you and a kayfun. It fired for about 45 mins on its own and took a freshly charged battery down to 2.8v. Everything lived though the experience but the kayfun now has cotton melted into the insulator. I now keep a close eye on the insulation on the battery just in case and rewraped the battery that auto fired.

As others have stated a atty and mech mod don't really care which way the electricity flows through them. It is mainly just electronic chips in regulated mods that have to have the battery inserted in the correct polarity, but inserting the battery backwards can lead to other problems when the wrap on the battery is damaged.

If the wrap on the battery is damaged but inserted correctly, it should be no problem or still pose a risk? There is a slight tear on one of my batteries but I haven't experienced any random firing yet. Could I maybe tape it over with duct tape or something else to cover the tear??

Battery's with tape on them fit fine in my chi you clones but not my nemesis clones. The main idea is to isolate the main part of the battery's body from having metal to metal contact with the mod. This can bypass the switch and lead to a constant fire on bottom button mechs.

I ended up totally replacing the wrap on a few of my batterys with this. Seems to be working well I just shrunk it on with a hairdryer. Pretty easy process and took all the worrying out of my mind and it comes with enough to do dozens of battery's.
