looking to clear up some gurgling issues and a FUNKY flavor issue by rewicking some of my mt3 attys. im having issues sourcing silica locally so while i await my shipment i was wondering what others have tried and what is effective. i had considered butchers twine and cotton balls rolled into a wick. any other suggestions?

20130430_232402.jpg Tried SS mesh on an Evod, somehow it wicks okay for about 5hrs then started gurgling so i put 2 strands of wick on top of it. Maybe a fatter wick?

well, i dont have any cheesecloth, but i have qtips around that i snip the stick on for no mess filling. unfurled one and after some futzing and swearing i got it rewicked. the flavor is a little muted, but it is fresh from the mail juice so that may fix itself. when i tore down the atty it looks like i burned the original wicks as they were stuck to the coil. dry burned a couple of times and they let go, reluctantly. cheese cloth does seem to be an easier idea as i dont have to growl and gripe at my qtips, may have to hit hobbylobby on payday.

I got my cheesecloth at my local grocery store. I asked the manager about it and he took off in a flash and was back in less than a minute with a nice food-grade pack for around $3.

It's 3 yards x 3 yards so I cut off a length 32" long. I pull out 2 strands at a time, fold it in half (4 strands), fold in half again (8 strands), and fold in half again (16 strands).

Now, when I use my beading needle to thread it through the coil I end up with a 32 strand wick. Then I double it back over and lay it on top for the flavor wick. I put the air tube back on and cut each side to the proper length. You can pull out 2 strands of the main wick and 2 strands of the flavor wick to get 30 strands if you want to, but I find 32 strand wicks works just fine.

I just rewicked my Kanger protank head with a cotton ball (100% cotton) and I must say it works great.
I wound the coil on a round toothpick first, then threaded the cotton wick through it.
I didn't prime it first, and I probably should have... but after about 7-10 draws it started wicking nicely and tastes better (I think) than the stainless coil I had in there previously.

What did you rewick with originally? I've found that silica will leave a funky flavor until it breaks in, usually a tank or two. Do you still have the funky taste after a tank or two?

nope, flavor is great, wicking is awesome, but if you get a dry hit for some reason it is a vicious and painful. had one and it required a rewick as i couldnt get rid of the funk, PGA, hot water, needle rinse. not fun, but i ran it down too far and there wasnt enough juice in the tank to wick. my mistake was unpleasant
