I recieved this today

Thank you very much for writing to let me know of your opposition to Assembly bill A. 1468, which would prohibit the sale of electronic cigarettes to minors and prohibit the sale of electronic cigarettes that are not approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The FDA has found that electronic cigarettes contain several cancer-causing ingredients, and are not necessarily a safe smoking-cessation product.

To the extent they are intended to be a smoking cessation device, they should be legal for adults, and would be under the bill, if and when the manufacturers seek and obtain FDA approval, as with other medical products.

I appreciate your consideration in writing to me.

Very truly yours,
Richard N. Gottfried

lets see, e cigarettes contain several cancer causing ingredients???? what do cigarettes contain and how do the levels compare when you compare cigarettes to e-cigarettes? electronic cigarettes hardly contain enough carcinogens to cause cancer, if they have any at all it is a trace and it is highly unlikely that anyone is going to die from them. they contain absolutely NO more carcinogens then NRT devices which are often times ineffective. compared to cigarettes which contain 4,000 chemicals they are much safer and are a very effective harm reduction device. this guy can go to hell, he is just protecting big tobacco profits. perhaps he receives money from tobacco companies or the taxes. perhaps he should go to jail for a little while to think about it. electronic cigarettes are very effective for people that do NOT want to or cannot quit.

the FDA needs to be banned, almost everything they deem safe are not safe at all. chantix is apparently "safe" but reality has it is NOT.

I thought I would share this table with you. I looked up the tobacco-specific nitrosamine (TSNA) content of several nicotine products. They are expressed as micrograms. To convert to nanograms, just multiply the numbers by 1,000. (e.g. 0.008 micrograms = 8 nanograms). I then figured out the average daily intake of the product and multipled to get what the daily exposure to TSNAs would be.

New York is a lost cause. They succeeded their sovereignty to the federal government a long time ago. Any time spent trying to convince New York of anything that recognizes the freedom of it's citizens to make choices for themselves is a waste of time IMO. They are first in every ban or law known to man(ex; seat belts, smoking bans, cell phones in cars....you name it). E-cigs are no different to the lawmakers in NY. New York is an FDA puppet.

Good luck,

Atomizer, Democrats in the New York Assembly appear to be ready and willing to defer to the FDA. Republicans, on the other hand, may not be so eager to ban the product, which is why we're holding out hope for the Republican-controlled Senate to vote this down.

I hope you are correct about the republicans. I would love to see this defeated in NY. I feel bad for NY vapors. Actually I feel bad for anyone living in NY. It's a beautiful state if you can look beyond politics.

I received the same tired old response that most lawmakers seem to be duty bound to send out to their constituents who care enough to write in.
Since this was not an acceptable answer to me knowing what vapers knew ,I sent another letter;

Mr. Gottfried,
How is it you are personally willing to overlook all the studies, which point to electronic cigarettes being 99% safer than tobacco cigarettes, and which have a higher efficacy rate for helping people to curb their consumption than any "FDA approved" devices and have the audacity to tell me, a person who has used this device for over five months and who's doctors have applauded my decision to use this device that;
"The FDA has found that electronic cigarettes contain several cancer-causing ingredients, and are not necessarily a safe smoking-cessation product." *snip*

Why are you deliberately ignoring all the other studies which also have tested far more samples than the very limited sampling from the seriously flawed FDA "study"?
Why are you willing to sacrifice your constituents lives for an FDA "press release" which was an outright lie? More disturbing to me is your willingness to believe this press release which has proven to be invalid and untrue.
Don't you think if the FDA study was true you would have heard about those harmed by this product before now?
It does have 500,000 users!
Not one person has indicated to the FDA or any agency that they have been harmed by e cigarettes.
I understand that you wouldn't like to lose the tax revenue your state depends on to keep functioning, but you are continuing to prevent adults from making a choice that could potentially save lives and that is a choice neither you, the FDA, nor the government have a right to make for me without my consent. Shame on you and Ms.Rosenberg for trying to force New York's citizens to continue smoking tobacco cigarettes because you don't like "ecigs" and have refused to educate yourselves. I believe sadly that you want to remain ignorant and uninformed about the better alternatives like ecigs or snus in favor of using products like the current ones available {gums,patches, and drugs which have a very low success rate 2-5%} simply because this product {ecigs} isn't producing revenue at the same rate.
Yet.
Shame on you all of you who have used this same lame excuse {"FDA says" etc.} for not caring about your constituent's lives which you will inevitably harm when you ban these alternatives.
Please educate yourself and stop making poor choices for me.
Regards,

I'm sure this hasn't been worded in a way that would be universally acceptable by all vapers or those with the 100% accurate figures but I was so ...... off to get another form letter I just wrote it to Gottfried, Rosenberg and their cohorts who were mentioned as voting against leaving the devices to be sold for adults.
I despise they are removing my choice of what I may/may not want to use.

I am so tired of these knee-jerk-wads who can't manage themselves trying to manage me, and for my own good, no less.

Ask him for supporting documentation regarding the DEMONSTRATED negative health affects of ecigs. I haven't done a lot of research but everything I find is fairly tenuous (even admittedly) and when compared to the corpus (pun, no pun? Your choice) of information regarding tobacco it's downright healthy.

Also, we have to all agree that the minor (young folks type) thing is something to be concerned about but the FDA has nothing to do with that. Is this more about taxes and power or protecting children?

Sorry, welcome to my first rant on ECF : b

I agree....... Supporting documentation should be supplied. Moreover, has any politician ever submitted documentation for anything when they were in the wrong? I wouldn't hold our breath for a response...:glare:

The vast majority of the letters are well-written, well-worded, factual and very specific. However, as with anything today, it is about the ability to shape public opinion that truly matters. This process has nothing to do with facts, logic or right and wrong. It is about numbers, eyes, ears etc. The "fact" that the facts happen to be on our side is an added bonus :) Lies always cost more and require vast resources to conceal the truth.

You just have to beat them at their own game. With numbers, knowledge and passion it is possible.

EDIT: Oh I see I wrote a thread-killer......
