I spoke to the reporter for around 20, 25 minutes when he put out his request a week ago and gave him some background on the potential perils of shortsighted, one size fits all FDA regulations.

The tobacco industry has long searched for a holy grail – a product that would give nicotine addicts their fix without also causing disease and death.

Well, that is a flat-out lie. The first ecig design was from the 60's - Big tobacco did all they could to kill the idea back then - so they've known of a "safer" delivery method for nicotine since then. They weren't searching for one - they don't want one. Only reason they are getting into the business is they've realized that the cat is out of the box and there is no way to kill it anymore.
