The headline of this thread and the news story is wrong, as the Richmond bill to ban e-cig use was just introduced at the December 3 Council meeting.

According to the Richmond City Council meeting agenda available at
Richmond, CA - Official Website - Council Agenda Documents

INTRODUCE an ordinance (first reading) to amend Richmond Municipal Code 9.56 to include electronic cigarettes in the smoking regulations - Councilmembers .... (236-7435), Rogers (867-5725), and Myrick (620-6636).

The bill has NOT been approved by the City Council, which is set to consider it in the near future.

According to the news clip at the beginning of this thread, Richmond City Council will vote on the bill at its next meeting next month (which would be on January 7, 2014).

But according to the City Council website, the next Council meeting is on December 24th (which may have been cancelled due to holidays)
"The City Council regularly meets on the first and third Tuesday of every month. Special meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of the month."

I cannot locate a copy of the ordinance at the City Council website, but the minutes of yesterday's council meeting have not yet been posted at Richmond, CA - Official Website

Since the bill was just introduced yesterday, it will likely be included in the minutes of yesterday's meeting when they are posted, but we don't have to wait for that to take action.

All vapers and vendors who live or work in/near Richmond should contact City Council members opposing the bill.

At least they're not banning the use or purchase of them. Just because you can't smoke a cig on the street there doesn't mean you can't buy a pack, so this would be very similar.

I'm not saying I agree with it, but that would at least be a silver lining if it happened.

I think its dumb to ban things in public use -_- Until the day comes when I can go out in public and have 0 risk of getting sick, getting some virus, ect, I don't feel like banning things like smoking or vaping in public will do much good.

No,this is the first step. Banning of sales, banning use in your own home or apartment, and on and on will come next.

I like the description of the video I haven't yet watched. "City leaders and health advocates believe the smokeless devices may be dangerous to smokers and those around them. E-cigarettes allow users to inhale nicotine vapor instead of tobacco fumes. They are not yet regulated by the federal Food and Drug Administration agency. John Ramos reports."
