Riva 1100 burnt taste

Hi

Am new to the site but refer to it often for answers to my e-cig questions. I have been vaping for about a couple of months now and generally much preferring it to smoking. I have had a couple of issues with my riva 1100..batteries short circuiting, hissing/popping noise from a cart. These have been resolved/worked around thankfully.

But am feeling impending doom with my current situation. I am getting this horrific burning plastic taste continually from my riva. I have two batteries, two clearomisers and a cart here. Have tried various combinations of assembly and still the burnt yuk taste. Have cleaned every nook and kraney with tooth picks and cotton buds, washed the two clearomisers under water and dried. Have removed a fair bit of gunk from these and even my charger...still horrible burning taste. Have also tried new eliquid...still burning taste. I cant understand why I am getting this from both batteries and all the vape juice attachments???

I am now on my only disposable horrid vapestick and am freaking out that I wont have any device to vape with soon. Dont want to smoke again...please save a wretched newbe from impending vapeless doom. :(

Hi Noveux! Technically speaking, your batteries can''t give you a burnt taste--the only source of that taste is the head you're using. I assume that your Rivas are true 3.7v batteries (start at 4.1v and then go down to 3.3v or wherever their cutoff point is). Do you know the resistance of your clearomizers? Do you own a multimeter and are able to check? And, by 'cart' do you mean a cartomizer? Again, do you know its resistance? If they resistance is too low for your batteries, you may be getting dry hits. Or you may have a wicking problem with your clearomizers--what kind are they? Top or bottom coil? Are they changeable coil model? If not, they just may be too old--they are disposable, after all.

--Can't unburn Burnt- have to throw away burnt stuff.

--Come here alot and read up on how to use the equipment.

WRONG ANSWER!!

Any wick that can be cleaned and Dry burned can be brought back to a useful state. Gunk is thick charring juice. Wicks are silica and can withstand Far more heat than a coil can provide. Wicks can be passed through flame and burned back to White.

Problem we have here is we have no idea what the op actually has, except the batteries.
Batteries Do not Have a Taste, in vaping. Don't recommend eating them though.:)

List what Devices you are actually using and maybe we can assist.

    I'm ok with it.

OK do I need a PhD in this stuff to get a smoke? lol. Sorry. I should point out my limitations here...I am a woman and new to vaping. :) So I got the riva 1100 kit from vape escape...The VE Riva 1100 Deluxe Kit £34.95 - Deluxe Vaping Kits - Riva 1100 Kit Electronic Cigarettes | Vaping Devices | Accessories | E-Liquid I cant tell you more than that cause I don't even know what a multimeter is let alone resistance levels. Treat me like a dump blonde and we may get somewhere! Excuse the mild attempt at sarcasm...its all in good taste, lol.

Like I said, I am struggling to provide op info. I wish I could be more in the know but time is of the essence here and nerves are slightly frayed due to severe nicotine shortage. :( Damn I need to rethink lunch now! Got the device from vapeescape. Its all I can provide you with just now  The VE Riva 1100 Deluxe Kit £34.95 - Deluxe Vaping Kits - Riva 1100 Kit Electronic Cigarettes | Vaping Devices | Accessories | E-Liquid

Cartomizer has filler/ stuffing and once it's burnt it's garbage.
Clearomizers have heads (wick+ coil) and need need to be maintained. Washing cleans the wick and dry burning burns the gunk up juice on the coil to ash. Sounds like you need to dry burn the clearomizer head.

Sounds good...how do I do it...or is that obvious??

    Alright! That's better.

Your cartomizers are OK for your battery; they look like good old Boge, 3.0Ω, so you have to make sure you fill them properly. Boge cartos are notoriously difficult to fill the first time as they have very tightly woven filler. They need to be filled with at least 1ml of eliquid or they will burn. After that, they need to be topped off early and often to keep the coil moist. If your cartomizer tastes burnt--it's burnt. Throw it away. They are disposable.

Watch this video to learn how to do it:

Your clearomizer doesn't have a changeable coil--you may try to soak it in vodka for a few hours and see if that helps, but I'm not sure if it will work. I suggest getting a Kanger T3 or eVod with some extra coils (2.2-2.5Ω would work well on your Rivas).

Phew that makes sense to me. Why did they all go at once though??? I can understand either one of the clearomisers, but both? and the catomizer.

I dont drink...so no strong potent liquids around I am afraid. Will try your suggestions for extra coils though...although my nicotine cravings are now determined by royal mail :( Will need to go on a hunt for decent disposables. Most brands available locally are awful. But hey ho needs must.

You can also try denture cleaning tablets. They work well, but leave a minty aftertaste--rinse your clearomizers well after a soak. :p

But honestly, go for changeable-coil models I suggested above. Much more user friendly. And if you do, watch youtube videos to learn how to care for them--or read this forum. Plenty of advice--just do a search for the specific clearomizer you choose.

    Good luck!

Not quite at the dentures stage yet!! But I am already loading my virtual basket with your recommendations. Sure aint cheap but hopefully last me a bit without burning out. I think I have a knack for electrical goods combustion ...just repaired my boiler for the third time this year...well not me...guess that's for another forum altogether any how. Thanks for your advise, will get with the techie know how. :)

If you try to vape an underfilled cartomizer, just a couple of puffs will burn the filler.

Your clearomizers are not necessarily dead yet--try to rinse the coil and wick under hot water (not boiling) or soak them in denture cleaner, let them dry, refill and take slow drags--they may not be able to wick fast enough if you're taking fast drags or if you're chain vaping. It's worth a try.

Ah you have confused me again...so the wick...what do you mean they may not be able to wick fast enough if you are taking fast drags. Now that sounds like something I may have done! So I have already cleaned them (yesterday). Should I clean again and refill or just keep taking slow drags of horrible burnt plastic?

They have a top coil and your eliquid needs time and some help getting to that coil. It's a known problem, unfortunately.

It's not exactly cheap to start out, but if you think it's working, then it's worth the money. It'll get cheaper after awhile. Your batteries are good, you just need to find the right head on top that works for you best.

Just a little patience needed to get thru the learning curve and you'll be fine- it's been working fine for millions. Congrats and welcome to non- smoking!
