Thanks, will try, any thoughts on the foil mod?

Honestly, I would suggest forgoing cart mods and just get some cartos if you aren't going to drip. Carts are so tiny and you end up fiddling with them so much with mixed results...

I haven't tried the foil mod but I'll tell you the system I use in case you want to try it. First, let me mention that I use standard Joye 510 attys and carts. I wish there was a video I could point you to because what I do is simple but it is a little different. But first some pros and cons.

The pros of getting the atty/cart system working well enough to be a viable solution: 1. Money. Naturally, this is going to vary from person to person depending on just how broke we are lol. This is the most important reason I went through hours of fiddly mods until I finally found what works for me

2. Taste. For lots of folks, nothing beats a good atty/cart except atty/dripping. That's certainly not true for everyone. Lot's of folks love their cartos and they are quite willing to pay the small extra to use they. For me, cartos with filler are not an option because I can't stand the slightest hint of charcoal.

\ Cons of atty/carts: The cons are well documented with lots of good videos where various mods are tried to help the situation. The bad news is that none of them work to perfection. The good news is that some of them work well enough to be worth it for those of us that love the taste and don't have the money to get it another way.

The mods that work for me:

1. De-wick the atty. The small wick at the top of the atty doesn't burn, but it does gunk up and it's very hard to clean. It's there to help the wicking but when it gets gunked up, I think it actually inhibits good wicking. And if the gunk gets burned a little, it surely does inhibit good taste lol. Since my experience is that the Joye 510 atty will wick just fine without it, de-wicking is the first thing I do to a new atty.

2. Modified straw mod for cart. I use the poly that comes with the cart and cut it slightly less than half. Then I cut a straw to go under the poly to keep the poly from sliding back in the cart. That's the only purpose of the straw. Some mods use a spring or pin to do the same thing. I also make four cuts straight up the straw to about 1/8 in from top, fold out two opposite sides and snip them. That's just to remove straw material and make room for another drop of juice.

And that's it. Those two mods work well for me. The cons are that I have to use tweezers to remove the poly, fill the cart then put the poly back. I have about 10 carts and usually fill 6 to 8 at a time.

JD1 please explain...
" For me, cartos with filler are not an option because I can't stand the slightest hint of charcoal. " I have never found this is my cartos?????
:)

Hi Sugar&Spice
I'll try to explain but keep in mind that I'm an old (68) ky hillbilly that was born at night and I haven't progressed much beyond that. Anyways, back to charcoal. The inner blanket in most cartos is said to be made of cotton. I don't know for sure that it is cotton, but I do know that it's not poly. As you use the cartos, you're also melting a few of these fibers along with small particles in the juice, with the end result that the carto finally becomes unusable and you toss it. I seriously doubt that this is unhealthy as there has been several studies on the effects of light inhalation of smoke from burning organic materials with the conclusion that most are relatively harmless in small amounts. Most woods would be in that category and hopefully cotton is also. The paper on a ciggy or other rolled smoke would be in that category. Now, as to why some do not taste it much and others do is another story.

Of course, the easy answer is just to say that taste is subjective. It's a good answer -short and sweet and one that we all use. But if we want to go deeper, in my opinion we have to get into the workings of the subconscious mind and just how deep we can go down that rabbit hole isn't well understood. And since it isn't well understood, I think I'll just leave it at that

So you asked me--please explain. And I took about 500 words to say--taste is subjective. Us humans crack me up sometimes.
