I recently upgraded to a riva since the 510 batts don't last long. I ordered from a vendor well known here on the forums that i won't name. Both batts and the charger failed within 72 hours. The vendor promptly sent me out replacements without even requiring me to return the bad merchandise first... hats off for that level of trust and service. One of the new batts didn't work at all and the other has a button that is nearly flush with the unit so it's difficult to depress (not proper) but it functions... so far.

I also noticed that all the fittings on all the equipment so far has poor threading or something since they bind several times as you screw the equipment together including the charger. The chargers also seem to be very frail.

Is this normal for Riva units? Did i just get unlucky with a bad batch or what? Is this vendor just getting poor quality gear or is this just what to expect from Riva's? If so, are the e-go's better quality?

I have several eGos, Tornados and Rivas and it sounds like you're getting a bad batch. I've only had one battery where there was any problems with threading and that was a 1000mAh batt Tornado where the cone didn't screw all the way down. All other parts have worked well, threads good. I lost the two original 650mAh batts I got in February, just recently.

There are reports - first by Scottbee - that a shorted atty can fry Riva and eGo batts - and a few more reports of that happening. And as far as threading goes - I always stop and start over if there is any resistance at all - esp. on chargers and then only go as far as when the red light comes on and the battery blinks - iow, I don't 'tighten' it anymore from that point on.

The Rivas I have are well built. At first I liked the more substantial button but there is more resistance on the Riva's rubber button than the plastic ones on the eGo and Tornado, and I'm now finding I prefer the easier activation with the latter than with the Riva - a very small point really. Just that everyone, including me, raved about the Riva button but for continuous use, I'm liking the eGo a bit better. Riva looks better, imo. Performance on all is equal and impressive.

If the vendor has eGos as well, you might consider replacing the Rivas with some eGos for now or get a credit/refund, etc.
