So I had an extra RM2 laying around so I decided to try and make a dual coil setup just for the heck of it. I started out with 2, 5 wrapped 28g Kanthal figuring it would be almost an ohm. So everything went good drilled 2 air hole and started vaping. Great vapor production great taste great everything. So as I was vaping it I loaded a lot of juice in it and it was what I thought, too wet, so I held down the button to get some of the excess juice out. We once I did that I started vaping again and *clank* *clank* yes the spring collapsed.
So my question is: Was it the build itself that collapsed the spring or was it me over heating it by pressing the button too long?
Thanks in advance

Hard to say. Either could have caused it. If there was a hard short (metal to metal) it would drop the spring.

If you held the button down for longer than say, 5 or 6 seconds with a very low resistant build it could drop the spring too.

Have you metered the build to see if a short is the culprit?

Is your button melted / deformed ?

Oh, and i don't run dual coils but one 5 wrap micro coil (about 1/16" ID) would prolly be in the neighborhood of 0.7 ohms. Wouldn't dual coils 1/2 the resistance meaning you were running 0.35ish ohms?

If so, .35 ohms is extremely low resistance and I wouldn't recommend it on ANY mod unless you are way smarter (or foolish) than me :)

^^^That. That's exactly what I was thinking, but was afraid I was reading it wrong. IF 5 wraps of 28 gauge wire gives you 1.0 ohm, then dual coils will cut the ohms in half. BUT...depending on what you're wrapping it on....it takes me 8 wraps of 28 gauge around a 16 gauge syringe tip to get to 1.0 ohms. Meter your coil. I think you're going way below sub-ohm. I'm just surprised it worked for as long as it did....

Get an ohm reader no matter what. It will be one of the best investments you've ever made as far as vaping goes. The Provari will not read your dual coil set-up properly due to its chip; it compensates for voltage drop on the reading. An actual ohm reader will give you a real, accurate reading. As most have said, two coils of the same caliper equals half the ohmage of one of the same coil. I've been messing with dual coil set-ups for quite some time on the Reo, and, judging by your initial post, it looks like you've seen my threads. My iTaste SVD reads my current set-up (2x 6½ wraps around 1/16" drill bit) as 0.3Ω. My ohm reader reads it as 0.53Ω. Quite a difference. As far as your spring, the fact that it collapsed at all is relevant enough to warrant attention. It doesn't matter much if it collapsed due to an extended press or not, the fact is that, after a while, due to heat, it would have collapsed anyway, or at least begun to sag, rendering it useless. If your good with your hands, I would recommend the fuse mod.

Otherwise, get an ohm reader and stay above 0.55Ω or so until the new kits come out. As someone else said, the build you described may very well have been below 0.3Ω, which is not, by any means, a good idea with the stock set-up.

Good luck, and feel free to PM me (or anyone else) if you have further questions.
