Need advice! What size & type of wire to buy for rebuilding the RM2 with easiest to build & use, low cost and effectiveness primary. What's the best size of coil to use/build for the rm2. Getting my first REO Mini & rm2 combo shortly (used, from a board member here, w00T!! :) Ya know, stoopid newb on board! too many choices!!

Your advice on wicking (cotton, hemp, etc. what's the difference) and coil jigs is helpful too. I'm thinking of either getting one of these or the coil master or kuro (or whatever you call it) off eBAy. Thanks in advance.:vapor:

You will get a lot of different answers but here is mine. I use 28ga kanthal, organic Japanese cotton and typically make a spaced coil. I used to make nice and clean, tight coils but switched to spacing the wraps out, I feel it lasts longer between wicking etc. I usually keep my builds around .80-1.0 ohms. Also, my rm2 is drilled out to almost 1/8 ".

Anyway, that's what works for me. I use that all day every day and I own an Odin and a cyclone. The rm2 is just great for an adv.

Good luck.

Hey! Congrats! Most of us around here use 28 guage a1 kanthol. Its a good stsrting point and is easy to work with. Most of us also use the artistic wire coil gizmo(i know, its a mouthful) that can be had on amazon or from michaels for under $10. Now wicks a different beast and many of use disagree on that one. Personally i use japanese organic cotton, but theres also ready wick, hemp, and rayon. You can also pick up some organic cotton from cvs or walgreens to get started and work up from there. Ultimately, its up to you and whatever works best for your vaping style.

Oh! Dont forget quality batteries and charger. Hit up rtd vapor. Good prices and fast shipping. Know your battery limits and STAY SAFE.
and we love questions, so dont be afraid to ask:)

Welcome to REOville! All of what Fishcakes said, and I'd also add, if you're going to be rebuilding, a multimeter to test your builds with, is an essential, especially when just starting out. It will also allow you to test your batteries (something you should do frequently, so as not to over-discharge them) at first, too.

Bittermelon, I got ya all set up. Already selected 28g and 29g for ya. These two are what many like to use. Also, selected 50 feet thru 250 feet. I'd start with 100 ft rolls of each guage, but you can go 50 just starting out. (Links Below)

I use 29 ga kanthal... KGD cotton... and I'm not real picky about my coils. Sometimes I take the time to make tight ones and sometimes I make loose ones. Sometimes ~1.75mm id - sometimes 2.0 - sometimes 2.5. Most often, I wrap my coils around some random screw I found on my desk. I like them at 1.1 ohms.

I like 28g Kanthal and wicked with Japanese cotton, generally building around .8 ohms. My airhole is drilled out a bit, so you might want to build higher resistance if you don't have as much airflow.

This calculator can help you figure out how many wraps you need, depending on what you're wrapping your coil around (the coil ID setting): Coil wrapping | Steam Engine | free vaping calculators

For instance: Coil wrapping | Steam Engine | free vaping calculators this is the build I just did, came out to .84. Wrapped by hand around a 1.4mm screwdriver.

I also would definitely recommend getting one of those ohm readers with a 510 connection, I found it much easier than trying to use a multimeter to measure the resistance.

I haven't tried a coil jig yet, always had good luck wrapping by hand and squeezing the coil together after it's mounted.

Finally, for wicking you want enough cotton for there to be a little resistance when pulling it through the coil, and then trim it so there is just enough to hit the deck. You really don't need a lot of cotton.

Edit: It sounds like you're getting silica wick, I'd recommend 2mm or 1mm. When I was using silica, I had a little piece of kanthal bent in half that I would stick through the coil, then stick the silica wick through and pull it back through the coil. This gets you a doubled over silica wick in the coil. The 3mm silica would be too big for this method, unless you want to build a large coil.

I don't use 28g anymore really but I do recommend it along with most people here for you starting out. It's easy to work with and 8-10 wraps of it will put you in a good place for the RM2 resistance-wise. I recommend the artistic wire gizmo over any kind of coiler tool out there. SuperX is spot on with his vids on it and the reason it kills the coiler tools. I use it, or wrap by hand - it's not hard to wrap by hand but if you want a tool, the wire gizmo gives tensioned micro coils like a breeze. KGD all the way for wicking.

Really though no matter if you hand wrap, use a kuro type coiler, or the wire gizmo, you'll be rocking good vapor out of your new REO and RM2 in no time flat. Welcome to the 'ville my friend, glad to have you here :)

Hi, bitter melon. Welcome to the 'hood. Nothing to add to previous comments except to say that I only use 26 gauge when I'm aiming for .8 ohms or less. Any higher and it takes too long to heat the coil for my preferences - at least with a micro coil. A spaced coil may heat faster, I don't know. If you don't mind pressing the fire button for a second or two before vaping though,, the trade off is more wraps, so more coil-to-wick contact, for the same resistance. I seem to lack even that much patience, so I stick to 28 gauge above .8 ohms.

I strongly recommend the artistic wire coiling gizmo... it is the easiest ever! And, it costs probably half what the Master Coiler and Kuro does.

Perfect coils...everytime.

for wick, I use KGD or Sheseido pads... just as good as rayon but a whole lot easier to work with

I like single coils at .8 ish...and I preferred 29 ga because it heats up faster.

Ask away...and we love to see pics ;)

Thanks
Geo

Next Question:

Since I like using the 306 atty on the REO-M (and I don't want to keep on buying them unless there's a really good sale), is it a good idea for me to build my coil for the RM2 with 1.8o (just like the 306) in mind? (NO subohming for me, thanks. Scares the b-heck outta me.) I just picked up the Artistic Wire Gizmo over the weekend from Michaels, and am awaiting a spool of 28awg Kanthal A1 and a bag of Japanese organic cotton pads (Labo, not KGD because it's cheaper and the amazon reviews swayed me). I also have a sample of 32awg wire and silica wicking from a friendly board member, and will try a sample of cellucotton from another great board member.
