Regarding snus, one of the important differences for some people is that it comes across a much more upscale product than american snuff. The American snuff looks like it was designed by a camero driving art director from the pro wrestling league in 1985, with images of angry, attacking wild animals like bears and wolves, complete with silly, hyper-masculine names like "Grizzly" and "Kodiak". It's pretty obvious that they are trying to attract teenage boys from trailer parks who are looking for a quasi-dangerous product to reinforce their masculinity to their peers. I have found it embarrassing not only hearing myself utter the name of these products to the store clerks, but to produce a can of this stuff from my pocket after dinner can bring on laughter among my friends, as if i were using it as some kind of ironic joke.

Snus on the other hand often gives no clue as to what it is from the packaging, a simple red band or black and silver stripes. Some of the containers could pass for a jewerly gift box from a Paris department store. Combine that with the lack of spitting, and suddenly it's a completely different experience from the typical smokeless image. Regardless of taste, toxins and all the other obvious differences, It's certainly more appealing to think of a product used by Scandinavian architects with skinny glasses rather than a guy with a can of dip with a baseball hat and a flourescent dale earnhardt t-shirt.

I know it may sound snobby and dickish, but i really don't think i can use the american dip because of this stigma.

Excellent observations! I especially like the stylish and rather feminine cans of Mocca, which the women in my trailer park share as a sort of first step UP socio-economically. Wish I had a digital camera to show you a picture. The cans are gorgeous and can double as jewelry cases. Their only downside is they don't have the ashtray on top. I guess nothing's perfect.
