It's my understanding that MV will be releasing an extended battery tube for the RoughStack to run at 6V. Can anyone who's seen the circuit board tell me how hard it would be to mod this to 5V with 2 3.7's and a regulator?

it's actually prestty simple depending on which regulator you use. If you use a fairchild regulator it will allow it to work at both 3.7 and 5 volts but the trade off is going to be a tight fit. Some of the other ldo regulators without control will be pretty easy to fit up in the cap area but will limit you to 5 volts only. I'm not sure of other devices that are like the fairchild and smaller that will allow less that the dropout voltage to pass but I'm usre they're out there.
we're waiting on the longer tubes as the ones we have now are a bit mismatched in diameter. The tubes natively will support either 1 18650 or 2 16340's either 3 v or 3.7 volt.

they're kinda bogus and I've been embarassed to sell them but will poke through the stack tomorrow and see if there's anything worthy of being a 2nd.

No worries - I don't even have a RoughStack yet. I'm always looking to save a few bucks though. I'll be placing a big order with you Thursday-ish. I'll keep an eye out.

Has anyone done this? put a regulator in a roughstack cap? If so, do you have details? I'm liking the higher voltage but I'm really bummed about the lack of availability of 5 ohm carto's (and atty's) 'cause with the two 3.7 batteries for a 7.4 total tends to fry carto's very quickly. I'd love to get it under control at 5 volts and use more 2.4 to 3 ohm carto's/atty's.
SloHand - Hoogie sells a 4.8v NiMH battery that would get you pretty close to that 5v your looking for. You'd have to have the correct charger for it (which he also sells) and I've heard it takes a long-ish time to charge, but I plan on getting a couple of these for my roughstack soon ...... same size as the 18650.

@slohand: Other than the ni-mh battery (which I use every day) mentioned by 911sc4me, there is another step below 7.4v - 6.0v comes from a pair of 3.0v lifep04 batts or a couple of 3.0v 16340 regulated li-ons.
