Hello to all! New to the forum and to rebuildables! I recieved my first rebuidables last week and am absolutely blown away at the performance of these things. I have 2 RSST's to learn on. Sort of impressed myself by having my first 2 setups come out pretty nice I thought! I am using 500 ss mesh and 30 A1 kanthal. My first RSST that I had made using a paper clip and rolling 45mm. I wrapped a 3/4 coil and it came out 1.2 ohms. This one has quite a bit of room inside the wick hole but has been working great for me with 50/50 juice still to this day. It took about a tank til I got that OMG taste that I had been searching for! I had lightly oxidized the mesh before rolling and pulsed until evenly lit coils appeared! Now the problem that I have is on my second RSST. I had done everything the same as the first except tight rolled 95 mm with the slightest of holes through it(can barely see it). Did a 2/3 wrap and came out to 0.9 ohms. Now this was working flawlessly up until yesterday with 100% VG(Boba's Bounty) which is my all day vape. Then I had a little mishap and had it on its side for about 5 mins and had a leak in the car. Pulled over opened up the top cap and there was quite a bit of juice on the top deck and throughout the stem. I lightly patted down the top deck and cleaned out top cap and proceeded to drive home! I had noticed a burnt taste that was worse then when it was b4 the break in period of the wick and coil. I got home and the juice seems to be a VERY dark brown to black color. If anyone has any suggestions as to setting up incorrectly or it happening because of the spill, I would greatly appriciate all feedback or how-to's! I want to make the best set-up I possibly can for my all day 100% VG! Also, I had been vaping a little more often then normal for the hour before this had all happened if that could possibly have an effect on this issue! Sorry about the length of this post and thank you in advance to any that can help me with this issue!!!!

It's just gunk, i.e. sugar burnt on the coil which you can wipe with piece of tissue. Some ejuice tends to have more, especially Boba's Bounty and that's why it's so tasty. Here's a suggestion: try oxidizing only the top mesh where your coils will be and leave the rest of the other half unoxidize all to the bottom. Make sure your oxidization occurs until it cover the middle where the mesh enters the wick-hole. Primed the whole mesh as usual. Since your bottom liquid-dipping half is unoxidized, your juice will remain clear longer. Can't help if bits of gunk on the top coil gunk falls back into the liquid though and muddy the entire juice though. That's the reason I do not roll 'straw' meshes anymore, only full/solid meshes. Try to get the mesh to be as big as wick-hole so gunk could not drop back in through the filler spaces between the mesh and the wick-hole.

Yes, I read a forumer did some test with all the meshes and builds(he uses kerosene with some cotton on top of each build and watch the fire burn intensity, flickering, etc lol), found higher density (roll solid) and finer mesh like the #500 wicks the fastest and never runs dry, best capillary action no matter how thick your ejuices are. hope I can find the link again.

Boba's is probably the hardest juice on a wick, it has a lot of flavor but will clog a wick from the sugars very fast. A long time ago I did a lot of tests with Boba's just to prove that it will work with the 500 mesh and it does. You just have to live with the gunk and black feedback into the juice. When I use Boba's I have to clean daily. All my tests are with 100% VG, anything else is just from the flavors, nic, and sometimes 5% water.
