Couple of quick questions:

1) I have 32ga kanthal wire, and use a DIY ceramic wick ala PetSmart air-stone in my RSST, though I also use 3mm silica now and then. I have tried 4 wraps, 3 and 2 wraps, and I get varying ohms from 1.6 to 3 ohms. Do you get more ohms the more wraps you make? I noticed at 5 wraps I had 3, and at 2 wraps I had 1.6. Other times I have had lower ohms with more wraps, so I am a bit confused. Would using something like 28ga get me lower ohms? I am looking for a 1.0 ohm to use on my mechs, but so far the only "good" way I have been able to get a good vapor amount even at the 1.6 ohm coil has been on my Vamo at 7-10 watts. I get great vape at that setting, then take the RSST and pop it on my V3 Sentinel and I get a very mediocre vape not as good as my Puritank or Davide, even with a fresh battery.

2) I bought my RSST used and it had no fill hole stopper. I popped a thin bolt in the hole, but it is far from leak-proof that way. Is there anything I could buy/make to fill the hole so juice doesn't come out, or am I stuck with keeping it upright all the time and making it a "home only" attachment instead of a carry to work device?

I've heard some found some small nylon screws or bolts that fit.

As for resistance... it is a function of the thickness of the wire (thicker wire has lower resistance) and the length is wire used in the coil... so more wraps will give you higher resistance.

If you have a smartphone, there is an excellent app called vaper's toolbox... where you can play around with the wire, resistances, voltages, etc... try it out.

Hiya

Yes, the more wrapps of wire to make ur coil you have, the higher the ohms will be. The thicker the wire, the lower the ohm. I dont remember if 32G is thick or thin since im used to dealing with it in MM instead of gauge.

I personally, like to get around 4 or 5 wrapps around the wick to make sure u get a bigger area heated up, others prolly have diffrent opinions on this, but sounds to me you need something like a 0.3mm kathal wite, wich should give u approx 1.ohm on a rsst with 4 wrapps. Keep in mind a vamo wont work below 1.1ohms, mechs it will work fine of course. for ur vamo 1.6 to 2.0ohms is perfect.

Why you get fluxuating ohms can be that you havent wrapped the wire thight enough and gets hotspots, or somehow u gotten a short. These are the first things u need to sort out to get a good vape. Also if ur rsst havent been cleaned in a while, u can have gunk or fluid down in the centerpole, wich will make everything fluxuate back and forth and give u a hard time.

I know some people make their own fillhole plug for the rsst, from for example tips of ejuice bottles and stuff, pretty much anything u can make fit will work. Most do not use a fillhole plug tho since a rsst or gennies in general wick better without it. i dont know if thats a problem with ceramic or silicia wicks tho. Gennies in general is best transported upright, again i assume this dependes on ur wick, might not leak much if u use for example silica.

A tip if u use silica in ur rsst is to run the wick down into the fillhole also, that way u get wicking from both ends wich is a whole lot better. Google mark todds rsst silica review to see how he does it.

as above posters have stated, a thinner wire equals higher resistances. 32g is thin and doesn't work for lower resistances. if you want to try a 1-ohm coil for your mech, you need 28g wire. with a ceramic wick and 28g you will most likely do about 4 wraps if I remember correctly. I know a genny will likely not leak with the fill hole plugged but usually doesn't wick as good. with ceramic I always left un plugged. the reason for resistances jumping is usually related to connections being not tight enough. one thing with ceramic wicks is the coils need to be as tight as possible. good luck
