You don't think that the cardboard will insulate against the cold? Seems as if it might and we want it as cold as we can get it.

Yes, it will insulate them initially and slow the time to freeze possibly by a day or so. Once the box is cold, it will chill the air in the box. Once that's cold it will chill the bottle. In the end it will reach the same temperature as everything else on the freezer.

Sorry for the late Thank You!! My online time is spread way to thin across many sites these days.
Thanks or all the flavor tips, with so many to choose from, It sure makes more sense now.

A quick question on freezing, A friend I referred to RTS is using a technique that i thought was interesting.
He splits up his liter into smaller bottles and freezes one at a time with the cap off to assure it don't break and least of concerns to minimize the air at top, then caps it.
I wondered if the nic would absorb anything else in the freezer. I'd be concerned (as minimal it may be) if last weeks leftovers seeping into my new nic and then become my flavor of the month...lol
His family has been freezing for years and thinks that the lids/caps may be the cause of some breakage as well?
Lids to tight, threads not matching up quite right...

Just tossing ideas around before I start freezing my new stock.

thanks

It's my understanding that unlike water, PG and VG don't expand when put in freezing conditions, but may actually shrink a little. Here's an informative post by a chemist who is a regular ECF contributor http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...freezing-100mg-nicotine-base.html#post8715793

That was exactly the post I was talking about in my reply to markfm a few pages back. Kurt had posted back in 2010 that it was best to leave little to no head room in the bottles when freezing in his original post. He has had a change of thinking on that subject in that post.

Yep, if there is not going to be much exposure to light, there really is no need for colored glass.

I know that originally Kurt posted the less air space, the better. Recently I saw him say somewhere in the DIY forum that a little air space is actually better. I am sure that either way works though. :)

ETA- I have also seen people use clear glass jars and put a sock over them to block light lol

Understood.

Still little headroom, just that Kurt had filled to the brim, got bit by the tiny bit of vg expansion due to temp increase. Pure glycerin expands about 1% per 20C temp increase, in the temp ranges we use. The nicotine and little bit of water will change this, but it is a ballpark.

Just throwing my 2 cents in. Keep in mind we have a lot of bottles on ice at any given time at minus 10 degrees F. Consistent with what everyone has said, both PG and VG diluted nicotine shrink when brought to this temperature. You NEVER want to fill a bottle to the point where the neck (with threads) has fluid in it. Filling it ever so slightly above where the cylindrical part of bottle starts to slope up is best.

Just placed my first order today. Read through most of the posts on this thread. Wish I had read it sooner. I'm in Canada and had some concerns about shipping which were answered in the posts. Shipping cost was reasonable too!

Looking forward to receiving my DIY supplies.

Just one question. Is the owner's NAME "Randy" or is that his state-of-mind from too much work? It's hard to tell when he signs all his posts as "Randy" ;-)

Then im not loseing it as i age as i recently acquired 1 liter of 60mg from Randy and filled 2 - 500ml bottles first one filled all the way second one ran short of the top and did this in kitchen then put right in garage freezer.
Talking with someone in Pm and we discussed this so i went to look at them several days later and said the bottle that i thought i filled all the way is can see i did not.
but i did and it shrunk .
Its PG based not Vg.
Least im not going crazy. lol
