If you notice your tank setup gurgling when you draw on it, it implies a flooded chamber. If you inhale hard enough, you could aspirate tiny drops of e-liquid. It's really not a big deal, more of an annoyance than anything, but you want to vape your e-liquid, not drink it.

As to the toxic aspect, you will feel other effects before you get to a toxic level - nausea, dizziness, tremors, headache, and more. The toxic dose for nicotine (from a 2013 study) is 6.5 - 13 mg/kg orally. For a 150 lb (68 kg) person, that would be about 440 mg of nicotine at the low limit.

A "high" nicotine level e-liquid is 24 mg/ml. You'd have to drink 18 ml of that e-liquid in one sitting to approach toxicity.

Exactly, he pretty much covered it.

Well, technically, liquid nicotine is classified as a toxic substance. Most [responsible] e-juice manufacturers put some kind of "Dangerous! Poisonous if ingested!" type warning, because that is the truth. You don't want to slam down a bottle of e-liquid. It has been discussed and people seem to figure that you'd have to ingest a fair bit of liquid nicotine before reaching levels where it'd be considered "toxic". At the minimal, virtually negligible, rate of consumption, you'd start feeling very ill before you'd reach a level where it'd kill you.

Most attys tend to have some spit-back. I find it can help to take slower puffs to try and avoid it a little bit. I've also noticed that if I let my Subtank sit for an extended period of time and then go to vape it, it'll usually give a few really loud pops/crackles, sometimes a bit startling. After a solid couple of puffs the wicks seem to calm down/get a little less primed and it goes away.

On a side note, I used to love Ruthless e-juice, but I've heard some questions regarding their use of flavorings that have gone unanswered. For that reason alone I have been avoiding them, but don't let that stop you. Swamp Thang is ......n delicious.
