Its always sad when you break the special one, or the one you liked the most or the one you invested a lot in. I was pretty lucky on the backup from because it immediately became apparent, while I waited for my first battery to charge up that I was going to have a problem during those charging times if the e-cig worked. Well it did (and pretty quickly in my case) so i went from worried about my next pack of analogs to worrying about whether I had a battery and clearomizer for the time the battery spent charging and/or the clearomizer was having to dry before I could refill it.
Thankfully my first setup was one of those battery/clearomizers in a bubble pack for what about 2 packs of analogs were cost - nothing pretty, nothing high end, no bells, no whistles but I was able to get a second one which prevented the excuse of going to analogs while the charger did its thing. Of course, I was pretty quick about moving on but those first two batteries and a handful of dirt cheap disposable CE4's have been my backups since then. Nothing seems to phase them and actually the backups are what I take on outings that have the potential for damaging one - they are hard to kill and if something happens and does the job just fine short term.
Of course, as fate has it - isn't it the best you have that takes the damage and not the one you can afford to throw away? Don't worry about a high cost of a backup - most anything will do until you decide to rebuy the broken part or graduate t the latest and greatest - in the meantime analogs don't become your backup.
I know what you mean about the convenience store disposables but they may do the trick for you now that you have been vaping. I know they are costly and not sure about in the AU but for me they would be the same cost s a pack of analogs so its certainly the better choice I would think.
But I can imagine your backup kit will be a nice compete one from now on
