Great read. He flirts with, but does not say, that the main reason that e-cigarettes are being banned is due to the fact that most governments have Big Pharma and Big tobacco playing angel and devil on their shoulders, telling them what to do.(or they have personal stock in them) Less smokers = less revenue, just as less smokers trying to quit with nicorette/lozenges/etc = less revenue for big pharma.

These people don't care about lives, they care about the greenbacks.

The only problem I have with you statements are that less smokers = less revenue = unhappy shareholders; that does not play into their ultimate purpose. If you want to take the conspiracy theory further, 'they' have all tobacco alternatives removed from the market until 'they' can begin producing and selling similar alternatives with the blessing of the FDA and other federal agencies. Think of it as cornering the market, increasing market share, good P.R. for their efforts, increased profits, and, eventually, very happy shareholders. In the end, tobacco continues.

What research is there on the relative safety of these two products? Is one "bettter" than the other for one's health? Any side effects to look out for from the PG/VG??

Link to info on PG:

Propylene Glycol : All about propylene glycol

Excerpt:

Safe use for over 50 years
The use and effects of propylene glycol have been thoroughly researched. It has been used safely for more than 50 years, including adoption in health-sensitive applications such as food, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, where the molecule mainly serves as non-active ingredient or carrier of other substances.

Studies have proven that propylene glycol has a very low degree of toxicity. In the body, propylene glycol is rapidly converted into lactic acid, in a similar manner to what happens with with sugar (energy) in the muscles during sports.

For the environment, studies have shown that propylene glycol is neither persistent nor does it bio-accumulate - it is readily biodegradable. :thumb:

All those articles are really saying is that PG is considered safe in the manner in which they are being used. Probably small dosages and infrequent use. The only real study that was posted that showed the effects of inhalation of PG was the study tropical bob posted on a germ-killing vapor. This study showed that chimps being exposed to it in a room of PG did not show any adverse effects after a few months. I still do not believe it is completely conclusive, but its a step.
