If I was going to attempt to use salt in an eliquid, what should I dissolve it in? Pg? Vg? Water? I mean I would proli dissolve it in water first anyway, but should I put in pg or vg after?

After talking to the Italian company DKS at vapefest, I really think this would be a great addition to the pv world. They had some of the craziest flavors I have ever seen. They had a black pepper, that was.....awesome! It was spot on black pepper, but oddly enough not bitter or off putting.

My point being if pepper is possible, wouldn't salt be?

Totally different animals. Black pepper is a particular organic compound, or a mixture of organic compounds which are relatively volatile (easily evaporated). Salt is an ionic compound made of ions. My thinking on using salt in an e-juice is one of three things will happen.

1. Most likely it will not dissolve well. Salt does not dissolve in alcohol well, and PG or VG are more alcohol-like than water-like.

2. It dissolves, but does not evaporate well. This would lead to barely tasting it and caking the atty coil up. Not a huge problem, depending on the amount used.

3. It vapes fine, and now you are inhaling ions into your lungs, changing the ionic content of tissues that depend on a particular ion content to work properly, and generally do not have such ionic changes occurring. Might be a big effect, might be a small effect, just not something that I want to mess with. Eating is not inhaling.

Just because salt and pepper often share space on a kitchen table, and are often used together, does mean they are similar chemically or physiologically.

Hey Iffy,
That all quieted it down in the public's eye, and largely for me went private-professional. I think many vendors got their acts together as a result, and I have been consulting for a few of them, running tests, getting QC improved, etc. The main players are in far better shape than they were last fall, and awareness on their part has increased dramatically. Other QC projects are in the works, too. Been pretty mum of late on it for two reasons:

1. It seems things are really improved, or actively working towards that. I've no intention of being in the middle of another storm...I prefer to just make sure things are getting fixed.

2. Its professional now, so I am bound to protect vendor's privacy on these matters. But I wouldn't do it this way if I didn't think it was protecting the customer, and leading to great improvement in the industry.

And really to the point, I've not seen any errors of more than 5% in months, and many of those vendors did have issues before. So while it might appear to the general public that I have been inactive in this, nothing could be farther from the truth. Its just graduated to a level that can actually make positive change. We have a ways to go, but we have truly come a long way.

Kurt, I think I speak for the majority of vapers and we thank you for not only the initial fire storm but the continual efforts on our behalf.

Sorry Lethalp for the off post

No problem, and thank u for explaining to me why it's not a good idea. Bummer tho.....back to the drawing board....

I did however request that DKS look into making a salt liquid, so, maybe they can figure it out, and hopefully it will be safe. My thinking was and still is with all the concern with diactyl, that it's mostly the salt and the creaminess ppl are wanting in their liquids. I know salt makes a huge difference in cooking, so I thought maybe it would make a diff in vaping. Now I see how it's two completely different things. I am still glad I put it out there to try, :) but at the same time glad I didn't make the jump.
