So I have two batteries that have died on me, I tried to take the first one apart, and got the middle post out easily, but while trying to get the actual threads/outter ring off, I crushed the soft metal.

So I have removed the middle post on the second battery, its a KR 808, I pulled off that ash cap (which I have yet to successfully remove without destroying as well) and pulled the battery partially out, and was trying to pry the connector off, but its on there solid. So before I destroy this connector too please someone help me!

Attach a dead cartomizer to the battery, screw it on real tight (this protects the connector), heat the battery end a bit with a lighter (near battery connector), grab at end of battery and carto (plier may help) pull and wiggle back and forth, like you're trying to bend it a little where batt and carto meet. Should slide out with a little work, will pull the battery guts with it usually. Haven't used this for 808, but works nearly every time with 401's.

I use a tubing cutter and cut the connector and steel shell about 0.3 inch from the end. File down the shell until the center connector sticks out a little. I remove the center conductor to solder up the hole and if needed go ahead and solder in a wire. Smooth the solder and reinsert. If you are going to press this into something or glue it in, the connector in the shell is still strong.
