Samsung have just issued a cease and desist order on their 18650s deeming them unsafe for use for vaping.

Samsung lithium-ion batteries declared unsafe for vaping devices: here’s everything you need to know

I’ve been chatting with the folks on the planetofthevapes.co.uk forum about it and Fogstar might be only stocking Molicels, Sony, Sanyo, Panasonic, Keeppower and LG. I’m unsure what’s going to happen with Samsung batteries in the states but here in the UK Samsung won’t be intended for vaping anymore.

They do what they do to CYA, it has nothing to do with the quality of their batteries.

AND, what does an international border have to do with IF a product is safe (or not)?!?

    add:
You see, my weed wacker has 8 25r cells in it's battery pack. (that's their intended market) Now if vapors keep using up their production capabilities, they won't be able to supply their "intended market".
(you can't shave if Brawn can't buy cells to put in their shavers)(or trim the edge of your garden)

Obviously they want CYA if something goes wrong with their products to avoid any lawsuits but I think they want to eliminate that risk entirely.

AS for borders, you do know the TPD and FDA have completely different laws when it comes to vaping, right?

I don’t know about you but once my batteries are done I’m switching to Molicels.

    Add:
There was something mentioned on planetofthevapes that the 25R batteries by Samsung are only intended to be used in a pack for your weed wacker or laptop battery bank etc. Just not for vaping for some reason..

Are they really unsafe? The reason I'm asking is because I have been using samsungs for years. I vape under 25 watts.
Well people have said it’s just Samsung wanting to cover their backsides. If you look after your batteries by making sure your batteries wraps are not ripped and know your ohms law you should be fine.

No, not with semi reasonable care & basic bare bones battery safety knowledge.

None of the batteries we use were/are designed by the manufacturer for private consumer use.

Agreed, Samsung 25Rs are rated at 20A CDR. If you don't push to 20 A or above they are fine. I use them in regulated mods safely and have done for years.
    It's backside covering no doubt.

Guess you lot think I’m a total dumbass for just being concerned? I take battery safety seriously.
Don't think anyone would think you're a dumbass. You saw something you believe was important and shared.

The replies should be taken as more of an assurance, not as an dissuasion.

Maybe I was overreacting to it. Only been vaping for about 2 years and everyone I talk to says to take battery safety seriously.

:2c: Any lithium battery has the possibility of venting and causing a fire or potentially exploding if it can't vent fast enough. I have seen lithium prismatic cells (the soft pouch kind used in drones, cell phones, etc) violently vent when abused in RC aircraft. I have also seen an AW IMR350 vent when shorted for a few seconds, like a fireworks spewing flames and spinning rapidly on the floor after removal and pitching (I cant remember the name of that type of firework). Heat, overcharging, and discharging too rapidly are the enemies. We do use these close to our faces so know the warning signs. @Mooch has a lot of info.
