Lately I have been making sandwiches for my son's school lunch. The cost is about the same, but nutritionally much better. When I make sandwiches for him, I buy Kroger partially baked french bread. I bake the loaf at night, let it cool slightly then cut into it and make the sandwiches, wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate. Right now, he's eating ham, american cheese, thin sliced onions, boarshead honey mustard, duke's mayo and basil leaves. He doesn't like lettuce in his sandwiches. The other day he took two sandwiches to school and ended up giving one away. He told me that it went down the table passed by 4 kids before someone took it, and they took out the basil leaves. Seems his classmates don't appreciate fresh basil in their sandwiches. So my question what do you like in your sandwiches and what about those with kids?

My favorite sandwich fillings;
Meat- roast beef, turkey, chicken, ham, and smoked salmon
Veggies- avocados, basil, varied lettuces, thinly sliced onions or shallots, radishes, cucumbers, and olives

I don't do basil in my sandwiches either! Cooking yes! I grow my own.

I love ALT's..that's a BLT with with avacado instead of bacon.

I also like chicken salad with nuts and chopped apple.

My little girl takes:
Baloney, co jack and mayo, or Salami, cojack and mayo. Have to put broccli on the side. she dosn't like ANY of my "fancy" sammys.

Elder girl does: Peanut butter, jelly, and a small sprinkle of sunflower seeds. Almond butter and honey or the occasional grilled cheese.

Lately I've been enjoying ham and pepper-jack with mayo. Also tuna is one of the things that I hated as a kid but absolutely could eat every day now. Today though...I have a salad for lunch...with chicken, banana peppers, croutons, and cheese.

edited : Ooh ooh...I almost forgot the BACON lettuce and pickle sammich and the Bacon egg and cheese sammich. :) ...i think i just ran into the bacon thread...

My favorite sandwich of all time: French bread loaf from walmart (.94cents) I buy 4 at a time and freeze them till I want to use them. Even if you do have to slice it yourself it tastes wayyyy better!! Plus I know it saves me at least a buck ona loaf of bread. I get ham and cheese from my walmart deli. 2 pounds of ham ends up costing me about 8 bucks but I think it is worth it. We frequently "live off" sandwiches around here. We can't afford a whole lot else, but it sure is tasty this way! I honestly don't think I will ever go back to presliced bread. :p
