Question... I see all the banners at the bottom of everyones post on how many cigarettes they've avoided and how much $ they have saved. I'm just curious if the $ part is all that accurate. I ask that question in a constructive manner! I guess I'm calculating from MY PERSONAL experience. I was about a pack a week smoker. I LOVE vaping and it's actually become a "wine tasting" sort of hobby for me. Anyway, i figured that if I looked at costs only, I would actually be about a one pack a day smoker! I'm spending 7x the money on vaping!

before I get tarred and feathered..... I will say that I stocked up on some atty's and juice. So, I probably have enough stock to go another 3-6 months, but still....

My only point is that when the banner says that "I've saved $xxx.xx" are you calculating what you've spent on vaping? Quite honestly, I have NOOOO problem saying that I spend more $ now. I feel better.... My wife LOVES the fact I don't wreak.... Friends don't give me ..... for going outside for a smoke.... I vape in my house with NO bother to anyone else.... etc.. etc...

I'm VERY happy with the product. I just think people need to be aware that it still costs money. So, if you are looking to quit smoking analogs because of $, then this might not be the solution. If you want to rid yourself of cancer sticks in favor of a GREAT alternative... welcome!

Flame away!

No flame :)

I think it's totally up to the individual ... if you're the type of person that HAS to try/have every new thing that hits the shelf, and try each and every flavor/strength of juice out there , then yes .. you can very easily spend a TON of money .... but, once you've been at it for awhile, you settle in on what device(s) you like, what flavors you like, you stop frying attys every week or so, and you don't feel the need for ALL the new toys .... then yes, I think you (I) do start to save ....
Just my thoughts :)

Im spending about 2$ a day as opposed to $6+. So Yeah, Im saving quite a bit. Not as much as the counter would let on..but definitely 66.6% less than I would if I was smoking.

I settled in quick with what I like and stick to it. I dont go overboard with supplies(unless I find something in Fire Engine Red ) but I am able to keep enough in extras to last me a couple months in between orders plus a little extra in case what I need is out of stock or my order falls around a holiday period. So at $6.50 a pack, I would be spending $2366.00 a year on cigarettes. Divide that by 3 and I am spending roughly $788.66 a year on vaping supplies and saving $1577.00 by not smoking. Which comes to $131.44 savings each month.

So I would definitely say I am saving money by vaping! :)

Before when I smoked analogs, there was always too much month at the end of the money. However, since I started vaping I always have extra money in the bank when I get my next paycheck... but then I go and spend it on juice and whatever new PVD Puresmoker comes out with.

So to answer your question, Yes. I have saved so much money since I started vaping and switching over to devices like the Prodigy and Protege has saved me even more money. I'm still going strong on the same three sets of batteries I got for my Prodigy in June. Six months and counting.

I think most of these banners don't take into account the money you're spending on vaping. I can tell you, though, that I'm saving a bit over $100 per month, taking everything into consideration (batteries, attys, juice, etc.), and that's about 2/3 of what I was spending, basically because I had moved to a cheap brand of cigarettes. This is theoretically based on longterm projections, though, because it will actually be another 4-5 months before I break even because I'm stocked up for about 2 years. After that break-even point, I'll be basically vaping "free" for 1.5-2 years (or however long the juice holds out before spoiling or something tragic like that). My banner probably only has a figure calculated from how many I smoked per day and how much a pack cost. I can't remember for sure what data I actually entered into it (and I can't easily see it until I post this).

You weren't really asking a question, you were making a statement.

First there are banners out there that take purchase cost into consideration. Don't ask me which I don't do those banners so I don't keep up. I would think all but the most naive know there is a difference between the number in their banner and the reality of their spending. From comments on the forum they do. Most people seem to choose their banner because of a vendor they like not how it calculates. If their favorite vendor banner took this into consideration it would be there.

You aren't typical of the people here. However you seem to enjoy it so I don't get why you are questioning cost. At a pack a week I would think you could quit any number of ways. You did say this is more like wine tasting to you so maybe you should expect it to cost more.

Thinking it cost more to vape than smoke for most would be short sighted. Start up cost are high but you inferred that you knew that. As far as "I just think people need to be aware that it still costs money" I don't think there is a person on this forum or thinking about starting that isn't aware of that.

At 1/2 to one pack a day it will still be cheaper unless you buy a lot of different models, it would just take a lot longer to save money. For those of us who were heavy smokers and there are a lot of us, we could buy almost as many models and as big a variety of juice as we want and still save money.

"Friends don't give me ..... for going outside for a smoke..."
You smoke numerically less than 3 cigarettes a day. Are you going ouy of you way to find a friend to smoke around? Seems like it would be easy enough to wait with the level of your habit.

If you consider this a flame then so be it. It isn't meant to be. I just dislike inaccurately posited statements.

Yes, I've spent way more on supplies for vaping in the last month than I would have spent on cigarettes. Although, as you say, I now have plenty of supplies that will last me quite a while.

But what is quitting smoking worth to the average smoker? $100? $500? $1000? More?

I think the average smoker would be willing to spend a lot of money to be rid of the cigarette habit. (Our habit has already cost most of us a fortune.)

And I've seen them spend it in myriad ways on patches, hypnosis, acupuncture, etc. and still they return to smoking. (My kitchen closet is full of 'quit smoking' gear, none of which worked for me.)

I didn't even PLAN on quitting with ecigs. I just figured I would TRY them, and then found that I preferred them to the 2 1/2 packs I was smoking per day. And now that I'm off cigarettes, I plan to ease down eventually on the nicotine.

Between my husband and I we were spending $600/month on cigarettes, two packs a day at $10 a pack (yes, they are very expensive here). I've spent $1,200 on ecig supplies, hardware and e-liquid. We have 16 batteries, 10 atty's and enough e-liquid to last us for over a year for what it would have cost us to smoke for 2 months.

I put the cost of vaping at about 1/5th the cost of smoking. The current numbers support 1/6th but you have to include the fact that batts and atts die and we'll probably have to buy more before that year is up.

Edit: Forgot to mention that we've both been off analogs for 3 months now, so the last month of vaping and the next 8 months are technically free :)

I am spending a bit more on vaping than I would smoking.

6 bottles of JC juice - $65
2 complete e-cigs - $50ish
1 PT, because I break them - $20
Cartridges - $30

Total - around $165
Generic cigarettes - $150 or so

The value of being able to run, breath, smell, not stink, not be in the cold, etc: Priceless.

Also take into account that vaping will be much easier for me to give up when the time comes than cigarettes were, because I'll be doing so gradually. How much is being smoke free worth?

Yes, I'm saving. I don't need to buy much anymore.

Spent on E-Cig stuff 930.02
Saved on tobacco & Gas 1747.08
BALANCE 817.06

If I smoked name brands in Indiana it would look like this:

Spent 930.02
@ $5.00/pack> 2524.68
Balance 1594.66

But it is really about the 10,000 cigarettes I haven't smoked in the last 8 months!

For me its been about the same due to poor performing equipment. PS has solved that problem if you ask me.

Same here, if not more! I realise it's a fairly new product, but I do hope the manufacturers eventually perfect it so I don't have to keep buying replacement parts so often. For the health benefits though, I don't mind as long as I am able to afford it.

When you start vaping there is an initial investment. I have a lot of the old 510's etc... from when I first started (over a year ago). I now own extremely quality products that last - Prodigy, Protege, PT & Prodigy V2 on it's way!!

In the long run I will save a TON of money and most likely my life!!!:D:D

Worth every single penny!

My banner is a lie. I have not saved anything yet. I bought my first e-cig at the mall for way to much money, bought two bottle of juice for 40$ (also at the mall) then my atty died and I bought one for 19$ (at the mall) and then I got smart and started looking online.
Where I found this forum.......and mods.......and 5volts and 6 volts and juice! And cheaper attys!

So I bought a xhaler......then I had to try every juice that someone posted a thread about saying it was "great", "awesome" and so on and so forth.
But I have mellowed a bit now, and I should break even at some point in which case I will save money, as I was smoking American Spirits at about 6.50 a pack and going through a pack a day.

my counter is way off too. BUT the Days are correct. that is why mine is there more than the $$$ and actually the one i'm on figures in cost per cart and how many carts a day. I'm sure someone could create a Puresmoker banner that accounted for Everything - and is able to be updated (bought a new PV etc, big order of juice, etc...) - i'd use it...

Right now I'm spending loads of money because it is too much fun trying out the various machines and liquids. Eventually I'll save lots of money because I'm a Canuck (cigs are $13 a pack where I am). And I'm converting my smoking friends and we'll have a "not for me" liquids and machines exchange. I figure I'll be saving money in about 6 months, and after that I'll be saving even more.
