I just got back from the bar with a friend of mine. I let him use my cheap e-cig I got from the gas station at party over the weekend. I never had problems with the 5 cartridges I went through...But he had 4 days of asthma problems after trying it. I know he has had problems with his breathing, but it wasn't until recently it was brought to my attention. He's has been a hardcore smoker since college. I would have stopped him, but he seemed fine...ya know. Anyways, I think it's really a personal question. I've been using a vape on and off the past 2 years and never had a problem. I just picked up an actual good vape today and loving it.

I occasionally get shortness of breath like I did when smoking, but I've realized it's almost certainly tied to anxiety (for me, I can't speak for others). You know that feeling when you try to yawn deeply, but for some reason you can't get it as deep as you think you "should" and suddenly all you can focus on is why you can't breath deeply, and for the next 5 minutes it feels like you can't get a breath all the way in to your lungs? It's that feeling. If I focus on it, it won't go away; if I take my mind off of it I suddenly realize I'm breathing fine.

No one can decide if vaping is safe for you except for you. It's a choice, just like smoking, or coffee, or taking a walk in the park after work. There is risk associated with each of these actions, and only you can decide if you are willing to take that risk.

No doubt switching from smoking to vaping is a huge lifestyle change and maybe a little of that is lending to your concern; however, there is no way that vaping is even remotely close to being as dangerous to your health as analogs. Even given the "scares" that are put out there about some components, consider the numerous harmful "additives" that are in analogs. I don't want to downplay your worries and it's a good mind that takes them into consideration, but I think that's just it... unnecessary worries. Trust yourself to make the right decision. :)

The way I see it it can't be worse than smoking, and is probably much less worse. The reality is though that some individuals do have negative reactions to one thing or another. My lungs don't like high% VG juice for example. I just stay away from it and have no problems.(fingers crossed) It's worked well for over a year and a half now so I'll stick with it.

Seriously?

There's nothing that's you're vaping that wasn't in cigarettes. Except maybe flavorings.

A lot people attribute every ailment on the 'new' thing they're doing. Half of it is probably symptoms from quitting smoking, the other half-- well, take your pick. Many of the people that begin vaping do so for health reasons so they already aren't the picture of health. Some of it's just the aging process or lifestyle. Maybe they haven't been that active.

Not putting down or minimizing anyone's issues. But because you're short of breath or your elbow hurts, it may not be from vaping.

Thank you all for being so gentle and kind....I appreciate it. Becca

Trust me- everybody goes through this and thinks this. I know I did.

It's almost like you can't believe that vaping is OK after all the crap you put up with smoking. Is it too good to be true kinda thing.

We don't know 100% about vaping. I just know that 'for me' it's certainly better than what I was doing. I just know I feel better about myself in every way since I stopped smoking and started vaping.

Hi Beccca! This is part of something I wrote on the topic:

...the nicotine in U.S. made e-liquids is the same pharmaceutical nicotine found in products such as the patch and gum; propylene glycol is often used (among other things) as an ingredient in drops to treat dry eye symptoms and as a solvent for drugs insoluble in water enabling them to be injectable; the flavorings used are food grade; and vegetable glycerin is used as an enema. Candidly, if substances can be put in your eyes, injected into your body, swallowed or pumped up your rectum, how harmful can they be to inhale? Compared to the known carcinogens in cigarette smoke, I’m not worried about it.

Yes....I was terrified what it would do to me...now I worry what vaping will do. Maybe worrying is my problems.

I had that same concern. I'm on day 2 vaping & although I haven't quit cigarettes YET i have cut the number in half. In just 2 days I notice a difference which makes me only want to quit even more!

I'm pretty phobic about EVERYTHING & I just started vaping. It has got to be better than continuing to smoke, as I said 2 days - 1/2 as much & I feel BETTER! I only vape in place of smoking - not consistently, only as a cigarette replacement.

My goal is to use vaping to quit & then work on quitting vaping too so if it helps ya just think of it as a temporary "crutch" to get you through the roughest days of quitting.
