Hey all

I guess I'm bored at work and decided read some stuff about movies that scared the HELL out of me.

What's your favorite scary movie?

For me, I'm not into homicide. That I find completely mundane. Scream? come on. And while I appreciate what a good movie Silence of the Lambs was, I did not find it scary because at the end of the day, it was homicide.

The supernatural is what freaks me out.

My top scary movies:
The Shining:
I CAN NOT resist watching this movie all the way through every time it comes on TV even though it scares me.

Silent Hill:
Terrible movie that didn't make much sense but some VERY very creepy scenes and situations.

Ringu:
The Japanese version of the Ring. It wasn't as prettied up as the American one, but the TV scene is just out of this world. They don't show Sadako's face! That's the best part! The American one just looked like the Reagan from the Exorcist. (been there done that).

House on Haunted Hill:
Another terrible movie. I list it only because the thought of an abandoned insane asylum is probably the scariest thing I can think of. And there's a creepy basement/operative room scene.

The Audition:
Creeeeeepy! The guy in the burlap sack? the moving tongue and fingers?

Event Horizon:
I saw this fully once. The second time around I was in the room and kept my eyes glued to web browsing instead of the TV while my cousins watched it. That's how disturbing it was for me.

I just found this video and it is just about the best thing I've seen in months:
YouTube - event horizon oooOOOOAAAAAHHHHH!!!!
oooOOOOAAAAAHHHHH!!!! haaaaa oh man....i'm going to have to really see that movie again.

Of course, being a "scary" movie fan, I have lot's of favorites, but one that also sent chills was "Wait Until Dark"... made ya jump in your chair back in the days when movies could still do that.

"Sixth sense" did it for me too, as I had no preconceived ideas when I first saw it in the theatre. I think that's the last one I actually saw in the theatre.

I love the scary movies, not so much the science fiction, although there are a few good ones.

And I agree about the Shining, it still gets to me when I watch it. Nicholson gave a great performance in that one.

"Event Horizon" is top of my list. Something completely eerie about it. Few things scarier than cutting your eyes out while trying to journey to hell....

ohhhhhhh yeah...like i said, i could only watch it once. but now i feel like i need to watch it another time to get over my inexplicable fear.

netflix...here we come.

Exoricist for the disturbing concept. I have never watched it again and if I had a ouji board I would have thrown it out.

Nightmare on Elm Street 1's opening scene had my skin crawling.

I like the ones that build up to it and then have you jumping in your seat when something finally happens. Night of the living dead is a good example of that.

Saw 1 was great for the concept tho the horror was a bit much at times, and I liked the ending.

Agree with House on Haunted Hill. Scared me when young but not so much now.

Amazon.com: Trilogy of Terror (1975) [VHS]: Karen Black, Robert Burton (III), John Karlen, George Gaynes, Jim Storm, Gregory Harrison, Kathryn Reynolds, Tracy Curtis (II), Orin Cannon, Walker Edmiston, Dan Curtis: Video
As one reviewer pointed out the special effects form the 70's will probably make it bad now but that last story about the doll had me freaked out. In fact, now that I think about it most horror stories that revolve around dolls freak me out.

Cujo was a great book yet seeing the movie after reading the book was horrible with a different ending. When I saw it again years later and I thought it was much better as my memories of the book had faded.
.
I just know people are going to put up others that will have me smacking my forehead.
I love sci fi and horror.

The Audition:

OMG! That one was sooo creeeapy I had to make a heavily edited music video of it using a song from OTEP.. I made this a couple months ago... This will give those who have not seen it a pretty good idea what it's all about.. (I even have the moving tongue in it...

WARNING: Not for the faint of heart...

Prr2freya: awesome video! I think i need to see that movie again. That music you added was very disturbing.

I saw Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2 last night (been several years since I watched them). They were really scary as much as awesome.

To Calligal:
Love love loveeee Night of the Living Dead. Zombie movies have ceased to scare me which is why I didn't put them on my initial list, but I am SOOO addicted to them. They're like a second nicotine for me. Whenever a new one comes out I need to watch it. My favorite Zombie flick is Dawn of the Dead (Romero's original), though the new one was good too.

To effigi:
Original Alien was amazing. It was a man in a suit right? Probably the best man in a suit monster i've ever seen.

The first Nightmare on Elm Street did it for me...the girl being thrown all over the ceiling coating it with blood freaked me right out ;-) A close second though is Saw4 (I think it was 4) when the doc was operating on Jigsaw's brain and you heard it squishing around when she removed the piece of skull. THAT made me stop eating my waffle fries (covered with ketchup of course):p

The scariest movie EVER made is called "idocracy".

The movie itself is a comedy but every time I watch it I get filled with terror that one day it will be true.8-o

IMDb Video: Idiocracy

I agree, but I think it's already started to come true. ;) Have you noticed the state of our school system? My kids have to commute like most people do for a job just to get to a decent school.
