Science (?) Behind Different Builds

I have been a very enthused coil builder for some months now, trying quite a number of different "crazy" builds (diamond, nano dragon, parallels, ridiculous twisted builds like the zipper, fused clapton, reverse twisted ribbon wire twisted with reverse twisted 28g kanthal reverse twisted over that and then twisted with ur mom and then twisted counter clockwise with your dad etc etc.) and have been very curious as to actually WHY these builds create different vapor qualities.

I get the whole ramp up time difference between nano, micro and macro, as well as twisted wire, but is there a standardized set of characteristics known to do anything else? Like in zipper coil build videos people say (well Twisted Messes does at least) that the wire patterns create all these wicking properties and stuff like that, what is the evidence that leads to these claims? Can you observe the wicking happening? Like i love doing these builds and DO believe there are differences between them, but I feel like if i wasn't TOLD beforehand what they would be like, I wouldn't really be sure if i would think of them the same way. A coil building placebo effect if you will.

Do you guys have any input on this? I am absolutely immersed in vaping and love the personalization of coil builds, but want to know more about how they came about and how they work.

Hi there, i will answer some of your questions and if anyone else has anything to add or correct me on feel free to fill yours boots.

The wire that twisted messes does can be made into a coil which can be used wickless, it can vapourize e-liquid from the deck of your atty just by having the coil close to the deck without the need for a wick to transport the liquid to the coil, if you try to do this with with some other wires/single wire for example it just doesnt wick efficiently enough. When you make the twisted wire you need to give it a good wash with soap after youve flattened it to wash away the dust particals that have been made from the grinding between the wires and your pliers, you can see that when you hold the wire under a running tap at certain angles that the wire will run beads of water the whole length without dripping off, it is as though the wire is trapping/holding onto the liquid through surface tension, with standard wire you wont see this effect and this is what i believe gives it the self wicking.

Other wires like Twisted, MundysMagic, Tiger's, Braided etc vapourize juice differantly to say single stranded coils in that you will see the violent explosions of juice and even smaller particles flying in random or not so random directions, which i believe adds to the taste.


Another coil to try if you havent is a stovetop, i normally stick with as low a ohm as i can, single stovetop but i have a gap between the wraps to spread the surface area, these also spit juice rather than just roll vapour from the coil as in your standard coils.
