Ok, I think my next purchase is going to be an SD or Prodigy but I can't decide which one. I have to wait to save up the $ so I have some time to research. I'm looking for feedback from people who have used both. What are the pros and cons of each? What are the differences in terms of throat hit, vapor production, ease of maintenance, etc. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Get a prodigy. 5 volts is the only way to go.
After receiving my Prodigy, I sold both of my Screw Drivers.
Do I regret it... not one bit.
3.7 volts cannot compare to vaping at 5 volts.

What does the increased voltage do for you? Is it just running the atty at a higher current and therefore more vapor?

I'm also curious what the increased current does to the atty's. Aren't they all designed to run at lower voltage?

Sorry for all the questions.

I like both devices and know that they are better in providing good consistent performance in comparison to the analog type PV's.

Basically the Prodigy at 5 volts will give you better throat hit. Another advantage to me is that you can easily use the 801, 901 or 510 atomizer with the Prodigy but you will have the added cost of the appropriate adapter. I also like the placement of the button on the Prodigy better.

The Screwdriver gives better throat hit than most PV's, just not as good as the Prodigy because it is a 3.7 - 4.2 volt device. The Screwdriver uses only one battery whereas the Prodigy uses two batteries. You can safely drip with either device. The main advantage of the Screwdriver is the battery life. You can get 6-7 hours with heavy vaping with the SD whereas you get about 4-5 hours with the PD.

Hope this helps.

Note: the atomizers do fine with either device. In fact some of us feel that the atomizer last longer because the higher voltage keeps the coil cleaner by not allowing gunk to build up as quickly.

I just went to the Puresmoker site and the Prodigy is listed as a 3 volt unit. I thought someone said it was 5v. And Holy crap it's $140!!!!!

How much did you spend for analogs last month? the previous month, the month before that? Last year?

It's about a satisfying vap'n experience that will get you off analogs forever... what is that worth???

The Supplies to build a Mod like the NicoStick of the Magnum are in the $20-$30 dollar range and give the Satisfying Vap'n experience you do with products like the Screwdriver or the Prodigy...IMO these other mods are way over priced for what you get..So really its not about the Experience for the Price...anything over $30 and your paying STRICKLY for LOOKS

2 x 3v CR123A batteries = 6v.
The switch with resistor will take it down to 5v-ish.
The switch without resistor will give you the full 6v.

IMO 5v is a good compromise.

Alternatively you can run it at standard voltage (3.7v) with one large 18650 battery, which also fits. These are rated 2000 mah plus (a DSE901 battery is about 180 mah) and so one charge should last most people at least all day.

Thanks Dr. Strangelove. Do you get the option of which switch you want when you originally purchase the unit OR is it the resistor switch something extra you have to buy in addition(at additional cost)? Thanks again.

Value is what a buyer is willing to pay and the seller is willing to accept. When they reach an agreement you have value. Period!!

Those with the expertise to build will feel the way you describe. Others that have two left hands have trouble sealing an envelope might feel another. Depends upon indivdual circumstances.

However, does not take away from my point. How much is it worth to an indivdual to safely and sanely get off the analogs? Only the individual can make that call for themselves. But it is worth while to consider.

..........................................................................................

Increased voltage gives better throat hit... and more, thicker vapor.

It is easier to shorten a atomizers lifespan when using incorrectly. There is a "learning curve", how to use it the best way. You'll learn when the atomizer is becoming too "dry", and how many drops you need to re-fill, drip without flooding the unit.

I don't go through atomizers any faster than I did with my Screw Driver.

Here's why:

At 3.7 volts, I had to hit my atomizer harder. Longer drags produced a very hot coil. I literally was "over working" the atomizer at 3.7 volts.
Because the Prodigy uses more volts, it means shorter drag time to produce better results.

So you see it's a horse apiece.

Longer, lower powered hits, vs. higher power, shorter hits

Therefore, I highly recommend 5 volts. You will not be sorry.

Get either a 510 or 801 atomizer. Don't get a 901, it is not as good. Been there, done that also.
(I just sold my 901 adapter and atty's on the swap thread).

I personally recommend getting an 801, especially if you drip.

Do your research on the PureSmoker thread, decide which best suits your needs.

Personally, I think looks are very important once I leave the home and use in public, this is just my opinion. Is it worth $140? That also is just matter of opinion. I really do like all the options PureSmoker gives with the Prodigy. Good luck with your research, i imagine you will change your mind a lot about what you want.

Me too. I made a 901 Magnum, the thing rocked, but it was big and bulky. I used it at 6+ volts... too much power. Atomizers only lasted 3-4 days.
It looked exactly like it was... a flash light casing.

Yes, $140.00 is alot. But look at it this way: You'll have a dependable unit, and most important... it will be the only one you'll need.
Like many others on this forum, I've played the "figure out which is really best" game.
I've spent multple hundreds of dollars on models that simply don't cut it.
Save your money... buy right the first time!

What ever you end up purchasing.... make sure it is no lower than 5 volts!

By default they are supplied with the resistor switch. The unregulated switch is sold seperately. If you wanted to order it with the plain switch it's probably worth checking with them, I'd think they could do that for you.

Toker, I agree with you completely. It's significant that the majority of the "what is wrong with my PV" posts are from those using the small auto switch devices and rarely do you see someone dissatisfied with one like the PD. I also find it interesting that you have to have an instruction manual to vape with the small devices and that with the PD you simply have to push the button and inhale. In most cases you get what you pay for. (except when buying a SE Gold)8-o

I think you were looking at the announcement of the Protege that has yet to be released. It will be a 3.7 volt device and be a lot smaller than the Prodigy. And yes the Prodigy is 140 but worth EVERY PENNY> Trust me on this one. I haven't even picked up any of my other devices and I have them all. When you vape at 5.0volts you will be blown away for sure... Throat hit on low MG juice and taste is spot on. If you are on the fence about the high voltage units just order one of the 510 Puresmoker Passthroughs. They are only 40 bucks and will give you an idea of their quality. These units are made right here in the US and they take great pride in workmanship. That is saying a lot in this market. The only problem I have with the Prodigy is the size. But how else are you going to get two batteries?
Now I can't compare the SD yet but it should be here in a few days. I got one of those because of the size of it and I just have to have the best of everything I guess. I just hope that I am not too spoiled after using the Prodigy for a while now. It is good to have a backup anyway huh?
