Hi all, I ordered some unflavored pg/vg eliquid 18mg, Wintergreen, spearmint, koolada, and menthol liquid from perfumers apprentice and I am trying to find the best combination of all or some of these for a good tasting minty eliquid, I will be trying the menthol madness located on the forum and the and in the recipe book, but i am waiting on some more supplies.. can anyone give me another recipe to try? I can't really find any others that sounds good

I use mostly VG and no nicotine so you may need to tone this down if you use a lot of PG. This is a recipe I have in the e-juice me up calculator for 6ml. Just plug in your mg per ml of nic base and the desired final mg per ml and the calc. will do the rest..

Smooth Menthol 6ml

Wintergreen TFA (3%) .18ml
Menthol TFA (3%) .18ml
Koolada TFA (3%) .18ml
Spearmint TFA (5%) .3ml
Sweetener TFA (3% .18ml

Good luck........

Do you vape a pretty low mg per ml? I used to vape 16 mg but used 100mg per ml base nicotine. My point is that mixing 18mg per ml nic base with these flavors in a 6 ml bottle will not yield and 18mg per ml e-juice.

I just looked at one of your older posts and found you are trying to make 12 mg e-liquid..is that correct? if so you will not be able to do it using this recipe which has a total of 17% flavor with your 18% nicotine base. Most DIYer's use 36-48 mg per ml nic base in their DIY. I always used 100 mg per ml base when I used nicotine. Hope I have not confused you more............

Thank you for replying! I just read BigBulli's thread after I made this one, I tried his recipe it is pretty good, but it needs sweetener, just like yours says.. I need to order some tho, so I wont know if it tastes really good til after I get it.. And I don't know all the calculations.. the calculators confuse me too... Im basically just trying drop by drop to see if I like it I do have a big bottle of old 36mg PG, about 1-2 years old.. do you think it would be safe to use? Do you have any pointers on the calculators I have tried multiple websites and tried reading tutorials but I honestly don't know where to start... And I usually vape around 12 mg if at all possible, as I said I dont understand these calculations :(

When I tried this, I seemed to get a funny taste. Almost like purfume. Does it need to steep? I am only using tpa flavorings. Would like a sweet menthol, kinda like a lifesaver

here is a link for the calculator that I use. eJuice Me Up - Best eJuice Calculator Install and then just fill in the blanks. I have given you the percentages for the Smooth Menthol just add in that you want to make 6ml and the mg per ml of nic. IN order to make a final eliquid with a strength of 12 mg you would need at least a 19mg per ml of nicotine base or you would need to reduce the % of flavoring. If you want to reduce the % of flavor by 1%(so instead of 17% it would be roughly 16%) plug in these percentages:
Wintergreen 2.82%
Menthol 2.82%
Koolada 2.82%
Spearmint 4.7%
Sweetener 2.82%
= 15.98% total flavor

which means you are going to add 4ml of nicotine (18mg strength) and 1.04 ml of either (or a combination) PG or VG, your preference, to come out with 6ml of final juice of 12mg per ml.

No mater what PG/VG ratio you use the final nicotine strength will be 12mg per ml.

I like to use this analogy when trying to explain using a higher strength nicotine base in DIY. Picture this ...a glass of iced tea...now think of your flavors as the ice cubes and the tea is the nicotine strength. The more ice you add the weaker the tea becomes unless you brew stronger tea to begin with to compensate for the dilution by the ice cubes. So pretty much the more flavor(ice) I want to add the stronger the tea(nicotine base) needs to be to be able to come out with a given strength of tea.

Post #3....1-2 yr old is ok if it has been stored properly. Is it pretty clear? Some discoloration is expected due to oxidation. Does it have an offensive smell or taste? Try a small 3ml mix to test it out first and if it vapes ok then use it.

I use TPA as well and have not experienced any perfume taste. Hmmm Did you mix it exactly as the recipe called for? Remember, I use the least amount of PG I can so my final mix is 17/83 (PG/VG) and 0mg per ml. Try letting it steep. As I recall I did with mine and it mellowed it out but I never had a perfume taste to mine to begin with.

which means you are going to add 4ml of nicotine (18mg strength) and 1.04 ml of either (or a combination) PG or VG, your preference, to come out with 6ml of final juice of 12mg per ml. .

so instead of having 4ml of nicotine and 1.04ml of pg/vg, I could just use 5.04ml of unflavored 50/50 eliquid?

and how did you know to lower the flavor % by 1? trial and error? I haven't tried it yet but will that calculator tell you what you need to make it 12mg strength or just tell you that 12mg is impossible at 10ml with 18mg strength base

the pg has a slight smell and discoloration i might try it out.. what would happen if it is old and i used it?

This is a very simple, uncomplicated calculator that is great for beginners IMO. Some of the other calculators have way too much extra stuff if you just want to make simple mixes
eJuice Recipe Calculator

Good luck!

Kinda like trying to paint a picture with only one color...can it be done ...yes.....I prefer technicolor though.:)

NO.......4ml is the 18 mg per ml strength of nicotine base you bought. The 1.04 ml has no nicotine in it...view it as a filler so to speak.
Yes trial and error. I plugged in 17% total flavor and it wouldn't let me do it so I reduced each individual flavor by 6% to come up with the final reduction of about 1% in the total of all the flavors combined.
If you download the calculator you will see that it won't let you do it, it will give an error message.

Using old stuff will probably taste crappy in your final mix and you may not get the desired nic strength you wanted.

ok so how about 4ml of the 18mg and 1.04 of 0mg 50/50 unflavored? or would I have to get separate bottle of vg and pg or does that not matter? as long as there is no nicotine in the 1.04 mixture..?

what would happen if Instead of the 4ml of 18mg and 1.04 of 50/50 pg/vg.. if i just made it 5.04ml of the 18 mg? would it just throw the nicotine level off a bit? I don't mind a little more than 12 mg strength

Don't forget you are adding flavor...As you add flavor your mg per ml goes down and you change your final ratio of PG and VG. Also keep in mind if you are going for a specific PG/VG ratio you have to account for adding basically 100% PG(TFA flavor)to a 50/50 mix of the nicotine base, final juice will not be 50/50.

For a 6ml bottle, if you add 17% flavor=(1.02ml) which leaves you with 4.98ml and you add that amount in the 18mg per ml of your nic base you will end up with roughly 14.91mg per ml e-liquid. I'm not astute enough in math to tell you what your final PG/VG ratio will be.

I hope I am not confusing you more.......download the calculator and play around with it..if you don't like it you can always delete it.

Gotta go mow the lawn before it rains so any more questions will be answered later.:)

I am not sure what would happen if you vaped PG that has gone bad but if it has an odor, it is going to effect the taste of your juice. I personally would not use it if it is 2 years old, discolored with an odor.

yea I am planning on throwing it out but keeping the 60ml glass bottle with dropper its very useful to have :)

This will probably help explain it far better than I........ eJuice Calculator - HOW TO

there are several threads on how to store nicotine long term. Looking back on my nicotine purchase I wish I would have only bought what I could consume in 6-12 months. At my 1 month mark I started to reduce my nic levels and by month 6 I was nicotine free! So most of the 500ml of 100mg (I bought 250ml and 2 days later he emailed and said I won 250 ml in their monthly contest!) nicotine was a very nice gift to my daughter!! My point(?) never know what tomorrow will bring.
