I got a first time experience with secondary smoke..I have been smoke free for almost 2 years..I recently went to a funeral which had a smoking lounge..

Upon entering the room to gets some coffee the room was full of cig smoke you could cut it with a knife..After talking for awhile to some people I didnt have the urge to vape any more I was getting sick at my stomach and started coughing, my head started killing me..

So when I returned home later I was so sick I had to lay down and kept coughing...I couldnt figure out what was happening, didnt have an urge to vape just the thought of it made me even sicker..

Will it came to me I was inhaling alot of that smoke at the funeral..I finally started feeling better the next day and gradually started vaping ..I now understand what is meant by secondary smoke... Has any fellow long term vaporers experienced the same situation..

As an ex-smoker myself, I'm constantly amazed at how much the cig smell stinks.

My mother-in-law still smokes, and every time my wife and I go to her parents' house, there is a fog in there from all the smoking that happens. Although I do not particularly like the way everything smells now, I don't feel sick from it.

I do know a couple of people who start to cough violently and look like they are about to throw up whenever they get near somebody who looks like they are smoking. Most of these people are also ex-smokers, but they've quit by going cold turkey.

Imho, if it's near somebody who looks like they are smoking, this is more mental than physical.

It's crazy how sensitive I have become to detecting cigarette smoke. I can smell it in parking lots from 50 yards away. I have even been able to smell it from the cars in front of me on the highway. My MIL still smokes and has a thing about keeping all the windows at her house closed. Even more incentive not to stay too long when I am in town.

I have been in a few smoked filled rooms since I quit.(went to a casnio) I try my best to avoid them because of the stench  (I can't believe I smelled that bad for so long) But I have noticed that my lung capacity seems to go down after 20-30 minutes, I get weezy and my chest tightens. The next day though is when It's bad, it makes me feel like I had been smoking myself and suffer for the day, cough and all. I get the same feeling with campfires now too. I guess it's my bodies way of reminding me how bad smoking really is.

Remember Kids Smoke Kills......Vaping is GOOD!

I have never not been around smokers. My bf and his friends smoke around me all the time. I totally get ...... when their smoke comes my way though. Get that crap out of my air space. ugh but the worst was last friday I went to a Dead Larry show and got stuck in a smoke box outside for a couple minutes before I had to run out gasping for breathable air. I mean that place was not good for smoking even for the smokers! lol it was bad. no one used that thing again. Good thing it hasnt been snowing lately or else all them smokers would have been freezing. I have also noticed my smoke detecting ability has become very keen. The worst is when someone is smoking and the smell gets on me. I hate that more than anything. I love smelling like my perfume and shampoo!

I have my granddaughters husband on vape now..He was using a auto battery and had a hard time in switching over until I gave him an manual battery..

Now he vapes and is hooked on it...My brother in law still smokes I have to put exhaust fan on high when he comes to visit...I cant stand to be near him or in next room he smells like an old dirty ash tray with a greasy burnt pork chop....I never smoked in restaurants I always went out side..After smoking for 40 some years I thought I would ever complain about secondary smoke...:)

Isn't it nuts? I can tell too if somebody in a nearby car is smoking, which is insane! And I can tell a smoker as soon as they walk by, or if im in a restaurant, i can tell if there is a smoker nearby, even if i cannot tell which person exactly it is lol.

I see a few people saying something like this and I always get boggled by this, and here is why I get confused.

It is your house, ask him to smoke outside. Now I know it is cold, but if they do not want to respect that wish, then they should not smoke. If they complain that it is too cold, ask them to go in their car.

My mom used to smoke in the basement, and the WHOLE house smells like it, my dad got sick of it, and honestly I did too, so he told her she has to go outside now cause of the horrid smell.

My girlfriend does smoke, but it is menthols, and I LOVE the smell of a menthol, I even take one once in a while from her. My mom smokes crappy reservation cigarettes that smell like cow manure and I get sick from them.

Hersch I just quoted you because you were the one that I found here that said there is a smoker in their house. I did not mean to pick on you and I hope you did not take it that way.

My mother bliss her heart just passed away a few weeks ago..She had COPD in a very bad way...
She quit smoking 15 years ago...Doctor told me if she hadnt quit back then she would of died 13 years earlier...

Wow! I guess I'm one of the few: second hand smoke doesn't bother me at all. I do notice that I can smell it again but I don't mind it. Now I can tell that the new FSC cigs do smell a bit different than the cigs of old. For as badly as the FSCs affected me when I was smoking them it doesn't bother me at all to be around it.

The only thing I do differently now is the ashtrays. I don't keep them out anymore. When I was a smoker an ashtray smelled bad but now that I'm not they smell horrid. I can smell them from across the room. I have to keep them in the basement and only bring them up when company is over.

I am so torn about this! I do think it smells horrible, and being in bars that allow smoking do make my eyes sting. But I used to smell like that, so I don't feel right complaining about it. Poor DH, I make him wash off that smell or at least cover it up before getting too close to me. Yuck!

The main issue, and I haven't had to face it yet but I know it's coming, is going over to see my MIL. They ALL smoke, inside, with no windows open. I don't know how I'm going to handle that! Maybe I'll just hang out outside with my FIL, I usually do that anyway.

Oh yeah, I can smell smoking from cars ahead of me, too. I couldn't smell them when I was a smoker, though. I guess I just couldn't smell period!

After almost a year of being smoke free, I still like the smell of a fresh lit cig, as long as I'm outside. Can't stand the smell of stale smoke on someone's cloths or car. Took more than a month to get the smell of cigs out of my house and even had my house painted this fall. Very few of my friends smoke and they just go outside now

My husband is the ex smoker nazi ! dang .He can smell it in cars around him and complains all the time .
It truly doesn't bother me in the least .Yeah i can smell it but i can also smell the perfume and after shave/cologne dumped on people from a mile away and it kills my allergies .But when it comes to my house ,we smoked outside for years before i quit and NO ONE is smoking in our house .I would also like the people who smoke something illegal to know that their clothes reek from miles to us non smokers .....:(
