I went through the segelei 100w and then to the Isticks 20-30and 50W. I have finally settled on an IPV mini 70W v2. The Segelei still sees some action but I have not picked up an Istick in weeks. The IPV mini is built like a brick and hits real hard. Some complain about the short battery life, being a single 18650 mod. Being as it is also a removable battery, I don't see the issue. With the Istick, when you're dead you're dead. The IPV I just shove in a new battery and vape on. I have 3 18650's in rotation and use a battery and a half per day. I actually find it more convenient than a built in battery mod.

For two batts, it's going to cost you and it isn't small - Vapor Flask. Most regulated dual batt boxes are in series so you don't get the 'extra' mAh anyway. Here's some 'ovals' - istick 50 internal batts, Kanger subox - replaceable 18650 50 watt regulated, Heatvape Defender - now at 36W - internal batt.

Suggest for replaceable batt:

Is there any way you could do me a favor and post a pic of that black subtank on the istick?

40 watt, can sub-ohm, internal battery, can vape while charging, battery lasts more than a day, all reviews are great, on the smallish side, from a great company - the CoolFire IV. Colors, can use a lanyard without a case, $34 to $38 bucks and you're good for a couple years, or til you buy your next shiny...

The *one* istick I bought, I gave away within a week. Some like them, many do not.

iStick 20 or 30 watt. No batteries or chargers to mess with. Should be enough power for someone that is new to box mods and unlike the iStick 50w, they are more reliable.

If the iStick 50w didnt have so many issues it would be a clear value winner. If you do decide to get the 50w any ways, I suggest buying it locally from a reputable dealer so that in the event it does start auto firing or die, you wont have as much down time (assuming they might exchange it for another) since you may not have the funds to buy another right away.

I would also recommend an iStick30. Reviews indicate it's more trouble-free than the 50. It may not have replaceable battery, but considering you are using a 650mAh battery, it should be more than enough and has the ability to sub-Ohm for future needs. Plus, it's cheap enough that you won't feel bad if you upgrade or replace in a year. It's also very pocket-friendly in size.

Thanks for the links! That subox kit seems like a great deal, especially at that price. As far as the isticks, I think I'm decided on getting something with replaceable batteries. Deciding now between the Kanger Subox kit (if only they had more color options... I'm not a fan of white, or the black/red combo), or the IPV Mini 2. The SX Mini M class is just too expensive and has a lot of features I probably won't use.

My big draw is.... The RBA ;)

  • Standard 510 drip tip
  • Uses standard 0.5ohm OCC heads
  • OCC 0.5 ohm, direct lung inhale from 15W-60w.
  • OCC 1.5ohm, mouth to liung iunhale from 10W - 26W
  • Improved RBA which will work better in higher wattages and apparently easier to work on
  • New airflow design on the Subtank Mini
  • Fires down to 0.3ohms
  • Maximum output is 50 watts
  • Compatible with 1 x 18650 battery (battery not included)

Does anybody know if the mod in the Kanger Subox kit is something that will be well compatible with a dripper? Something like the Magma RDA? I definitely want my device to be able to handle both RTAs and RDAs, and do it well.

There's no reason why you couldn't use a dripper on the Kbox mini (subox). Although the black subtank looks good on it, I've had other tanks on it as well.

I actually don't prefer the matching look, tbh. Although I really wish they had the Subox kit in silver! The mini tank you can buy separately looks so much cooler to me than the black or white.

I'm starting to look at the Vapor Shark rDNA 40 now... The size and look are awesome! Only hesitancies: price is high, 40 watt max seems low for long term (though I have no idea), and the fact that I have to turn the thing up-side down to read the screen... Seems like I'd have a lot of dripper leakage on my hands.

Anyone want to tell me their thoughts on / exprriences with the Vapor Sharks?

I wouldn't go for anything by innokin because they tend to be expensive and considering you've only been vaping 2 months, you don't want to buy something you regret (like I did when I started 2 years ago)

Plus, you don't get much for your money! Look at the Istick range by Eleaf... As far as I'm concerned, you get the best value for your money, they're compact and look really nice!

I have a istick 50watt in my collection, they're stylish and you can't fault quality

Plus, unlike some box mods, you get a lot for your money!

Have you seen all the reviews here on ECF complaining about the quality of Eleaf? Stripped threads. Auto-firing. One actually blew up and roached some poor guy's carpeting! Innokin, on the other hand, came to fame with the MVP line, one of the sturdiest mods out here.

With the Cool Fire IV running under $40, I don't see that Innokin's products are prohibitively expensive. And with stainless steel threads, all kinds of protections built in, and the look and hand-feel of it, Innokin looks like they stepped up and beat eLeaf at their own game. I liked the look of the iStick better than I liked the look (and that humoungous! size - too damn big!) of the Innokin MVP 3.0, so I waited until Innokin figured out what eLeaf knew with their iStick. Ergonomics matter.

And then I bought a CF 4. I have way more confidence in the durability of Innokin than I ever will in Eleaf.

Ipv mini 2 owner here. Get one and you won't regret it. Handles subtanks perfectly and with a vtc4 or vtc5 you can get almost a whole day in on one battery using a subtank. Has the power to handle RDA's as well, though depending on the build you might go through battery's a little quicker. The upside of the ipv mini 2 is the price point for the power and the ability to swap battery's instead of waiting on a charge. It's a solid little device too. Doesn't feel like its flimsy at all. You'll love it.
