So... I decided to quit smoking two months ago, and decided to try vaping again. The first time I used an electronic cigarette was in 2010. I got a starter kit of blu cigs. They were cool at first, but they still used cartridges with seperate atomizers, and honestly tasted pretty bad after a while. That didn't last long.

When I decided to quit smoking, I did some research online and noticed that electronic cigarettes had evolved a lot since then, so I went to a local vape shop and picked up an ego variable voltage battery and an ego usb passthrough. I was really impressed with how much they had changed.

A few weeks later, I was getting frustrated with the battery life on the ego, and the passthrough had stopped working completely. I started looking online again and realized that there are tons of different options, and practically a whole vaping culture. Then I met someone through a friend that works at a vape shop, and I tried his mechanical mod. I was like .

Basically, a month later, and I've been doing tons of research and reading on vaping. Electronics had already been one of my hobbies, so I picked up the basics pretty quickly. My first project was rebuilding my broken usb passthrough. I used a vacuum belt remover tool I found laying around, a usb extension cable, a 6A 120v momentary pushbutton, and the ego connector from the broken one.

It turned out pretty well for a first try imo. It works really well with computers or adapters that can supply 2+ amps. It vapes at 10 watts with a 2.5 ohm cartomizer.

Now I'm using a 4nine mechanical mod with a .2 ohm dual coil dripper and it's totally awesome. I haven't smoked a single cigarette since the day I decided I would quit. I'm also working on designing some unique usb passthroughs and unregulated MOSFET mods using transparent polycarbonate tubes w/ LED lighting. The first batch is almost done for the usbs.

I signed up here to try to learn more from the pros, pretty much. So... hi (^_^)/

I'm definitely planning on it. My design is done, and I'm going to give some to my experiened vaping friends to see if I can make any improvements first.

For the first batch I'm going to build in female USB micro ports, so you can use any Android charger cable to power it, and you can have a cord as long as you want. It'll also be easier not to have to pull around a huge cord everytime you want to bring it somewhere. They're going to look awesome, too. I've looked, a design like this doesn't exist yet.

I've personally never had any problems using it with computers above 2 ohm (even a cheap netbook running on battery), but drawing that many amps can't be good for them. The best USB power sources that I've found are the ones that you replace a wall outlet with ( 4 ports, 4.2A), and some power banks can also provide crazy amps, but they can be expensive. I actually bought a 5V 5A DC power supply on ebay, and just replaced the barrel plug with a female USB port. It works awesomely for both the e cigarettes and charging stuff.

A 3 ohm atomizer running from a 5V USB port pulls 1.7 amps for 8.3 watts

2.5 ohm pulls 2A for 10W

2 ohm pulls 2.5A for 12.5W

1.5 ohm pulls 3.3A for 16.7W

1 ohm pulls 5A for 25W

Going below 2 ohms, it gets impractical to power it unless you have the right kind of supply. Above that, tablet chargers or car adapters work fine, as long as you check the current rating.
