Sense of Taste & Smell Periodically Lost - Please Help !

Switched to vaping since New Years Day 2012! Had a few problems & solutions along the way. However this one I can't seem to figure out. For the 3rd time now, I can't seems to taste or smell my favorite flavors. Additionally there is a faint medicine taste in my mouth. Last time this lasted for a couple of days. Before quitting analogs, I smoked a pack a day of menthols for about 25 years. Now I use an eGo-T, eGo-C, & a Provari. It took a while to figure out PG gives me a soar throat and cough. Lowering my nic 24 to 18 also helped with the cough. I experimented with different voltages to see how it would affect flavor; and it does to some extent and adds more vaping pleasure. I just don't know what to make of the periodic loss of taste/smell. food still tastes the same, and I smell everything else OK. My juices are Boda's Bounty from Alien Vision, Expresso from Backwoods Brew, and Bliss & House Blend from Copper Creek (yes, I like the tobacco & coffee flavors). Any advice is well appreciated. I've been searching the forum and can't find others with my problem. Kind of scared of loosing my sense of taste / smell all together. Please help.

Forgot to mention, I clean my attys regularly to ensure tast not affected by caked on gunk. And that this has happened even when I do not have a cold. Although since starting vaping, I get nasal congestion more often. Thanks in advance for your input.

Can't give you any real answers, but I do have days when I can't seem to taste or smell my favorite juices. Frustrating. I usually just vape unflavored, and I'm good to go the next day. Don't know why this is.

I have allergies (a lot of them) and this has happened to me for the entire time I have vaped every couple of weeks for a day or so. morganmeltz's solution is the same as mine- the fastest "cure" that I have found. And honestly, unflavored isn't bad, it's slightly sweet and you still get the nic and vapor. It makes the cartos last longer, too.

It seems to happen because we are directing the vapor onto our tongues in a stream and it deadens the taste buds. For some it happens more often than others. From what I have asked people and from experimenting myself it seems to happen less with people that rotate their vapes through different flavors during the day and depends on your water intake (kind of washing off the taste buds I guess).

Some get through it by vaping flavorless nic - others by vaping a strong flavor (menthol for example). Usually corrects itself in a day either way. Experiment and you will find what works best for you. I rotate during the day a lot and really have not had the problem - I have only been vaping for 6 months so maybe it will happen later - who knows...

I am surprised you are having more nasal congestion than before - I was able to stop my allergy medicine after a couple of months vaping - maybe you are not taking in enough water or maybe it is from tobacco withdrawal and not the vaping... Hmmmm
