I bought an SXK Stingray X clone and it just came in the mail. I popped on my Nautilus, and stuck a purple Efest 18650 inside. Instantly, the mod overheated and I had to through out the battery (The batter stayed hot for about 5 minutes after it was in the mod for only about 5 seconds. That made me nervous, since I know that battery was fine. I just bought it and worked fine in my Panzer earlier today. But in case it was the batter, I tried one of my LG HE2's. Exactly the same problem. Now I'm out 2 batteries in less than 5 minutes.
With both batteries, it only started to overheat when I pressed the firing switch.
My question is, is there something I did wrong? I wasn't using the hybrid adapter. I was using tried and true batteries. My tank's 510 isn't shorting out. The only thing left is that there is something wrong with this mod. Is that a fair assumption?

Thanks

I suspect the spring loaded 510 of the Atlantis is the culprit . When you snug the switch up to adjust for battery length it might get compressed to the point that the threads of the Atlantis are making contact with the positive on the mech and causing a hard short . I'd try thoroughly cleaning the Stingray X to make sure that metal shavings aren't the issue , make sure the negative contact is snugged up and try an atty that doesn't have a spring loaded 510 on it .

Thank you for saying that. I should have double checked my post. I meant to say I used my Nautilus.
I thought about that, and that was the case with the first battery, or so I thought. I loosened up the switch, and it did the same thing again. So I don't think that is the problem
Plus, I use my Atlantis on my Panzer regularly and it never had a single issue.

As I said before then , give the mech a thorough cleaning . My Panzer started shocking me after a rebuild , tore the atty down , double checked it with my DIMM , nothing wrong , switch on the Panzer was as it should be , reinstalled the atty and Zap ! Racked my brain , decided to thoroughly check the mech with magnification and Eureka , a dam near microscopic piece of kanthal was in the 510 connection between the positive pin and the threading causing a short when I fired it . Since I use a stand with a 510 connection to build on there was no way the kanthal was stuck to the threads of the Atty , my best guess is when I clipped the leads on the coil the clipping flew a few feet and landed perfectly in the 510 connection of the Panzer , crap happens . :)

I'd take apart the tubes and switch and clean them out with water and dish soap. Use some rubbing alcohol on the contact points. Make sure your battery sits snug inside the tube too, adjust if needed. You also want a clean atty connection on top of a good 510 to 510 from atty to mechanical.

I hope all goes well, the SXK stingray x clone gets a lot of good reviews.

    MattyTny and retic,
I cleaned everything really well with soap and alcohol before I put the first battery in. I also let it sit and dry completely. I also picked the SXK because of the good reviews I've seen. Since I haven't tried an RDA on it, I know it isn't a piece of wire shorting it out.

What I did notice was that the top delrin insulator is loose enough to be pushed in further than I think it should. I'm not sure if that is normal. It isn't super loose, but I was surprised to see how much I could move it. Also, The bottom insulator looks like it started to melt a tiny bit after one of the batteries over heated. I don't know if it was after the first or second, but that makes me nervous about trying again. It isn't melted enough to let the battery short. It looks like a smear when plastic heats and is pushed around.

I just cleaned it again and tried one last time. This time, it didn't fire the atty at all, and it still destroyed yet another battery. I'm just lucky that I feel heat really easily. The last 2 batteries not only over heated, but the wrapper started to melt off of it.
I don't have the money to go through batteries like candy. I've contacted the company I got it from, and hopefully it can be resolved easily

The top insulator is only there to isolate the positive contact from the threading , is the positive contact somehow able to touch the threads ? This is a head scratcher , it's so hard to guess without seeing the mech . I hope your vendor takes care of you , I have the Hcigar Stingray X clone and it's a favorite of mine , update your situation on this thread and feel free to start a conversation with me if things don't get resolved .

I heard back from them. I had to make a video showing the problem, and they are sending me a new one. I'll update again when it gets here, and I see if this one works. I'll feel really stupid if it was something I was doing wrong. but if they are sending me a new mod, then I would assume that it was a malfunction in the mod, and not user error.

I'm glad to hear they're resolving your problem , the mech is worth having .

    Roxynoodle,
That's exactly how I set it up in the first place, so I know I did that right.
I got the new one in the mail today, and it works great. I pulled the batter out after the first few hits, just to make sure it wasn't heating up, and it was doing fine. The one thing I noticed that makes me like my Panzer more is the feel of it in my hand. I'm sure it's a fantastic mod, but it feels so light and cheap. The Panzer was my first and only mech until now, so that probably skewed my opinion. But for me, the weight of the Panzer feels so much more solid. When I screw in my Silo or Nautilus, the Stingray feels extremely unbalanced.
I'm sure I'd get used to that, but it does bother me a bit. has anyone else noticed this, and is there something you've done that helps counterbalance that feeling?

I appreciate all the help and feedback, but it seems like the first problem really was a problem with the mod itself

I bought the Stingrays for two reasons , performance and because they're lighter than some mechs and are easier to pocket . Before the Stingrays my main mech was a stainless steel 26650 Panzer , switching from that beast to the Stingrays is an adjustment , so I understand what you're saying . I still love my Panzer but I definitely appreciate the Stingrays for out and about , you'll adjust in no time .
