We are at a 'break point' in technology & staff resources and this is what is causing the issue.

Our servers are set up in a particular way that has lowered running costs and worked very well for a year. Our 'problem' is that traffic doubles every year and this has major issues for big sites like ECF. Now we need to make a major change in the way our servers are arranged, and at the same time Alex our main server admin got a VP job offer that obviously means he has moved on in life (we wish him well, things were great while he was here and he deserves the new job). We are trying to get some stability in our server staff and then we will make some major changes. Mainly this means we will add either one or two more servers, but it can't be done until the staff situation has stabilized.

We are well beyond the point where host's tech support can do this work, that was over a year ago, so we are dependent on having exactly the right staff in place before we can carry out major tasks. Currently our new guy has some family illness commitments so we are treading water for a bit.

Things will smooth out soon enough.

My professional opinion is that there are too many of these running around the ECF threads:

@Liv2ski
Thanks. We appreciate all contributions of course. But like I said, no amount of money will fix this particular issue as it's basically staff movements / family problems combined with a major server change being needed. Just the way things worked out, nothing to be done about it.

What would be nice though is if you would like to support PapaBloog in giving the Mods a token of your appreciation. They are volunteers and do the work because it needs to be done for the good of the community. We do pay some expenses but there is not enough money in the world to actually pay them for what they do, in any case - you can't pay for commitment/care/love and all those intangibles.

mods love mods more than anything else in life apart from their families :) (and ECF).

@Suzy
What have catbutts got to do with it?

NOT catbutts...assclowns that take up the server's time and space with unnecessary comments and pictures.

By the way, I hugely appreciate all that you do to keep ECF flowing.

If this was directed to my original post that was totally uncalled for and very rude.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but this IS where we report site feedback (godd or bad) and get help, right? Since I was fairley new when I ran into the issues I was not aware of the ongoing issues with server problems on this forum. Forgive me for taking up precious server space.

MODS...PLEASE CLOSE THIS THREAD...

She wasn't talking about you, but about most of my posts and this thread: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...77-word-better-describing-trouble-makers.html

Thanks el. I can't remember when I signed up as a supporting member. I guess you'll let me know!

Mv: (I'm speaking for suzi here, so I could be wrong. But I doubt it). I really don't think she meant you! I think she was referencing the common trolls that irritate and annoy on ANY forum. Usually people call these idiots "trolls" but here on ECF they are called "assclowns".
Please don't take offense. I'm 99.9% sure it was not directed at you!

My appologies, I had already seen one instance of rudeness that El took care of in the classy's. I assumed this was the case again. My bad.

Now back to the original topic, seems like the issues are at what I would consider "peak" internet hours.
Mainly 5pm central - 12pm. It has gotten better than it was when I posted the original inquirey.

Thanks angus :). I'll be sure to renew!

Jerbro: that could be! You ARE the instigator, afterall :p

MV: no worries. Sorry to hear that you were treated rudely off the bat. I do have to say tho: that is NOT the usual around here. Ecf is one of the best forums on the web. And I'm not saying that just cuz Roly is posting here. I've been online for almost twenty years ( yep I was only three when I started! lol) and this place must be where all the nice friendly people hang. If you stick around, you will soon discover what I mean.
:) welcome
