I'm not getting the busy message but whenever I try to put either a profile picture or the avatar option I'm getting this message:

"vBulletin Message
Upload failed due to failure writing temporary file.
"

(I didn't have either a profile image or an avatar before the server change, but I thought I might like one and have been trying only since the change)

What I'm trying to do is use a picture from the internet using its web link and its a little jpg, fits the 150x150 and 5k requirements

OK - we're on the new server now. This server has 4 times the processing power of the old one, so I'm hoping that raw power alone will overcome the server busy messages.

That said, we have not optimised the server yet - that will happen over the next couple of weeks, but I hope that won't be an issue.

Please let me know (in this thread, preferably) if you do experience the busy message!

Thanks everyone,

SJ

Well, Smokey Joe, I thought I'd add a few things to this. Sorry to seem a hog.
  • If I'm logged in and click on a thread, I either get the "server too busy" message or I get a white screen with the word "Done" down in the lower left. If I click "Back" the previous screen loads, but if I click on a thread or click "Quote" for a reply or "Post Reply" I get the "server busy" message or the white screen.
  • But, if I'm not logged in, no problem: anything I click on loads immediately, just like it did the first week or so I was a member and would stay logged in. Something happens when I log in: it doesn't want me to navigate the site.
  • Several times I've clicked on the little page number at the bottome of a multi-page thread, and instead of taking me to that page it kicks me to the main forum menu page (I don't know if "menu" is the right term here).
  • At the bottom of the screen right now I'm still getting this:posting Rules You may not post new threads
    You may post replies
    You may post attachments
You may not edit your posts
Not sure what to make of all this, but at least I can still read others' posts, even if I can't reply, so there's still some benefit to the site (sort of like when I first visited and hoped to find out information about e-cigs before buying one). I hope when the server is fully implemented this will repair itself. Thanks for noting my concerns.

(I'm about to hit "Submit Reply". My experience tells me "select all text and copy it before submitting".....)

[Edit: This is very weird: I hit Submit and the reply posted immediately. Suddenly, at the bottom of the screen it now tells me I can edit my post and I can post new threads. Maybe by quoting Smokey Joe I found the secret to curing whatever was wrong!]
