I initially posted this in the New Members section, but was told, I can get better advice here, so here I am:

First, I don't smoke, and recently I found out that I am type-2 diabetic and I do have a sweet tooth, and an extreme one at that, probably the reason why my blood sugar level are so high. I am able to control my diet and with meds have got my sugar under control, however I do cheat ever so often and eat something sweet (We love our sweets here in India). Due to this problem, and after discussed with a couple of friends and I tried a drag on a friend's mod and I actually thought it would be a good idea to use vape as a method to experience "mouthful" of sweet flavours without consuming a lot of actual sugar.

Oh and I love DIY, I am a fairly hands-on person and able to achieve what I set out to do on most occasions, so I don't mind jumping straight into DIY juice, rba's, etc.

Based on a some reading and my knowledge of flavours I like, this is my criteria for a hopefully perfect vape for myself:
1. Lots of flavour
2. Cool vape, I don't like hot stuff
3. Fruity flavours
4. Minimal throat hit
5. Clouds would be nice

Based on these requirements, I came to the following conclusions:
1. No nicotine - Since I have never smoked, I don't need this and throat hit from it
2. No PG except from what is in the flavorings - Again I want minimal throat hit so I don't see a reason to have PG in my juice.
3. 70% VG - I think this should be optimal enough, I don't want to minimise VG as well since it is converted to glucose, however the small amount consumed should not be troublesome.
4. 30% flavor + distilled water - This I think is a good balance with the 70% VG.

I have ordered some stuff to get me started (I know, I know, I should have created this thread before ordering the stuff :p)
1. Vamo V5 mod with a pair of VTC4 bats and a XTAR charger - Seemed like a good choice for a cheap VV/VW mod, other option was the SVD (Which is way too big) and the MVP 2.0 (I initially went for this, but then realised I'm not digging the box-mod and I wanted somethign with external battery, also allowing me to use those batteries for a future mech mod)
2. Kraken Clone from FT - Wanted to go for a RBA since I wanted to build the coil exactly to my scenario, since I will be using it occasionally, I wanted to be able to use it like a dripper while having the option of using the tank for chain-vaping when I'm in the mood.
3. 28g Kanthal wire - Seemed like a good thickness, to maximise surface area to get good flavour.
4. A long drip tip - I believe this should help deliver a cooler vape
5. 100% VG base and few fruity and menthol flavorings from MBV - Again, attempt for minimal throat hit and cool sweet flavours.
6. DIY stuff - Various gauge needles, various volume syringes, some measuring cylinders, various size PET bottles, small glass vials. I do dabble in electronics so I do have multimeter, tweezers, soldering gear if needed, wire cutters, etc.

I need help in figuring out if the choices I have made are correct? And what would be a good coil setup to suit my needs. Any and all help is welcome :D

Kraken may be a bit tough to start on, but being that I can see you are the sort that likes to research things I see no reason you can not figure one out.

Kraken like most genesis type attys will tend to be warmer. Of course a lot of that depends on how you set up your coil and in your case how much voltage you have running through it.

They are definitely capable of lots of flavor and vapor, but again very dependent on how it is set up.

I would say a Kayfun type or similar would have been a better choice as the coil is further away from the mouth piece and not inherently as warm. A little easier to set up too.

But zero nic juice, high impedance coil, high vg and lots of air flow should lead to a cooler vape with no throat hit.

Out of curiosity have you considered just holding the vapor in your mouth and not inhaling into your lungs? If you are not a smoker and are just after flavor I would think this method would be effective for you and thus negate the throat hit factor.

good luck!

yeah the kraken is a bit of a challenge, especially clones. they arent made as well and that makes things difficult. i mean sometimes screws wont catch or tighting, the top cap is harder to get on and off on some clones ive looked at. but it is a good practice gennie at least and it will perform just fine when you set it up right. the kayfun type atomizers are definitely a good choice. they have clones if you dont want to spend too much and again it will be good to practice on.

Like others have said, starting with a genesis style atty will probably involve a steep learning curve. But with that said, SS mesh is one of the most crisp vapes I've ever had, when properly set up.

For pure ease of rebuilding, I would recommend starting with a RDA with a large open airhole. You can choose a 22mm RDA and build it single micro coil with a cotton wick. The large deck will give you lots of room to work with, making it easier. Shoot to build a coil around 1.5-1.8 ohms. With a properly built micro coil, you'll get very little shorts in the beginning to work out. And working the shorts out is as easy as a squeeze with a set of tweezers.

The RDA, wicked in cotton, will give you the intense flavor you're looking for. The 1.5-1.8 ohm coil and large open airhole will allow you have a cool vape whether you run a VV mod or a Mech mod.

I tried the Kayfun at a friend's today, not sure if it was the setup or just the piece, but the draw was very tight. The aerocool in comparison was less flavorful but the draw was so much more smoother and airy. We are going to see for possible solutions to his dilemma as he too likes a more airy draw. We did turn test the setup naked and there was plenty of vapor.

There was also a lot of leakage, it was a FT clone.

I did try out his nemesis and knew I had to get one, so ordered that too :D.

MrPlink, I did practice with holding the vapor in my mouth only and then exhaling it and is actually how I liked it most, so throat hit is not as big a concern.

I do have an RDA in mind, but that is for next month. I hope I won't have much trouble building on the kraken as I do do small SMD soldering, so I can work in small tight spaces.

I was thinking of a 28g dual microcoil net 1.8ohm setup. I know the single coil will get quite big, so I was thinking maybe split it into two, so a quad coil serial-parallel setup. Lots of surface area. Might take a while to heat up at 3.5-4V.
