Saw this is getting popular- converting old coolers into feral cat shelters. Looked like a pretty good idea to me. Some are more elaborate. You might consider it for your rabbits. Thought about making one myself, for when our cat, who sleeps on the screened porch in good weather, doesn't ask to come in in time during cooler weather. Just a thought.

I have made several of these, as I trap and alter feral cats. None of mine look this nice though. I mostly just use the Styrofoam ones and straw

Toronto has been coined the raccoon capital of the world. See them all the time on public transits (subway and buses).

Fluffy is making my life really difficult and I’m so tired trying to keep him separate and safe from the other two rabbits. But he’s still so cute . I’ve bonded with him the most.

My mom just calls him the ...... lol
Neuter him and after a month or so he'll settle down and you won't need the to separate any of them.

It’s gonna cost me 300 bucks at least to do that :( and I need brakes done on my truck and Toby hair cut. They upped the piece from 180 to 400 for Toby’s sedation and hair cut. I just can’t afford all that by myself :( I’ve been finishing a 11-12 hour shift outside in the rain only to come home and work on my
Rabbits till 10 11 at night. Then back up at 5 am the next day. I’m so tired. Last night I contemplated letting him go but then he ran up to say hi and I just
Couldn’t do that he’s so happy wel fed and warm now.

Life’s really getting me down. Money money money. I even said he’s a rabbit at my work I want to rescue before he gets killed and I need him neutered to keep him at home and not get killed but the price is the same even if I bought a rabbit from a pet shop.

@Ricky Vapes – sorry to hear about your struggles. Please keep in mind that a rabbits biggest defence is their reproduction rate. If left unchallenged, as in no predators, their population can explode quite rapidly.

Found this. It mentions rabbits so worth looking into.

high plains
bunnies are cute n no problem up north where they belong.
they would hop along my plants never taking more than an ocassional nibble.
on the plains. where some idiot introduced them, they turn into ravening beasts.
they cost me $325 in ornamental plants one year.

until my kits moved in, i couldn't grow a garden.

Canadian pet care costs are ridiculous. What a shame. Have you tried cbd for Toby? Works very well on some animals and many vets around here recommend and carry it.
CBD isn't a bad suggestion @Ricky Vapes - may sound crazy but when we got Atticus a year ago, we were his 4th home and he had a lot of anxiety presumably due to moving between so many different homes. It was bad. When I would leave the room, he'd scream and claw at the door. He literally couldn't be left alone for 5 minutes or the house would be destroyed.

Started giving him 1mg of CBD per 10lbs of body weight per day, 5mg in his case. After a week of doing this we noticed his anxiety was starting to calm down a bit. And by the 2 week mark, he was reasonably calm. I was curious if it was the CBD or just the fact that he was adjusting to his new life, so I stopped giving it to him for a few days. The anxiety ramped right back up quickly, then toned down when I began the doses again.

After a few months he was doing remarkably well, so I tapered him off it over a week or so. He's never needed it again - he's a year older now and considers this his eternal home (thinks he owns the place). Nothing in my life has ever made me happier than see him come to terms with his anxiety and embrace his new life with us. I think CBD was extremely helpful and saved our house from being destroyed. We still give it to him in certain situations, like when I go away for a while because he misses me and goes a little wild otherwise. And I also give him a dose on days where he is very physically active, as I think it helps his muscles relax.

Anyway, if you were to try this I would do some research to find a reputable CBD brand without any THC and use 1-2mg/day doses. I'd get sublingual oil and put it on a treat for him.

Also, I've heard that there are places that will help subsidize pet costs for people who have trouble affording it. Sorry, no details on this and not sure if it exists in Canada, but you might try seeking something like that out. I'm willing to bet someone somewhere will help you, especially since you're more or less saving their lives / at the very least giving them a better, more comfortable life.

I can sense the fatigue and stress - please don't ever feel trapped. You've got to look out for yourself first, others second. What you're doing is incredible, but nobody would ever think less of you if you had to let a bunny go back to the wild. Remember that my friend.

I tried to help Ricky too, finding some spay and neutering places for rabbits. I am aghast at what they charge. Welcome to the next bump in the road. Hopefully the place you found will offer a reasonable solution for him

I know there is subsidized veterinary services in Toronto, can’t speak for Vancouver – but the local Humane Society should be able to assist or point in the right direction.

Also found this. $75 to neuter a rabbit but that does not include additional fees.

Aw really guys!? I was gonna do some work with my chainsaw for the lady I got the trap from . She will pay me 20 bucks an hour but it’s tax free so it works out to more than I make at my job. I’m gonna phone another place called eagle rise or something and see how much they charge. I’ll get back here soon. I’d just really like to get fluffy done.

It’s not like US vet bills are any better. I never left the vet for a minor issue without a few hundred dollar bill. The repair of a torn ACL on my pup’s knee set me back close to $3K. I’d I had to guess at my annual vet bills averaged for my pets it would have been close to $1K. Granted routine yearly for the usual exam, heart worm, and all that stuff ended up about $300. Add in procedures for those acute problems and they always ran at least $1,500.

I’m not even including stuff like Front Line for fleas (decent prices at Costco), Heart Guard, and the other sundry medical type stuff. Pets are not cheap.

Ricky, one thing I’ve learned is somehow there is always a way of getting the important stuff done. Not easily but sometimes things have a way of coming together.

Em's yearly checkup/boosters are 63.00. Her liver infection and subsequent kidney infections maybe cost 400.00 over 2 years. Guess costs are dependent on where you live.

Wow. I can’t remember what my cat bills were like, but dogs are a lot of money around me. Guess it is geographic. Makes it seem worth it to travel somewhere cheaper. I never put any thought into that.

No idea when I’ll ever have a pet again as my place doesn’t allow them, so the good news is no vet bills, the bad, no pet. I’d gladly take on the vet again if I could. I miss having a pup around. :(
