Let me preface be stating that I'm pretty green to vaping, so I'm unsure what my expectations should be.

My initial rig was (is) an itaste vv 3.0 w/ a CE5 S clearo, seems just fine. For now.
I wanted an itty bitty stealth outfit so I bought a Haka 650ma & an IBTanked 15mm halfling tank / carto.
The IBTanked uses a super shorty carto, it's pre drilled. (2)

The thing is ; the CE5 clearo tastes much better than the little tank & carto combo.
Swapped both back & forth several times .. same juice in both.
The tank / carto combo sort of tastes like I'm getting some flavor from the fiber material, kind of chalky, dryish comparatively but not really burnt tasting.
The clearo ( on either battery ) tastes richer, thicker, more flavor. Just better all around.
Any postulations ?
Clearo is dual coil, carto is single coil. Could that be the diff ?
The carto is really short ? Too short ?
Could it be starving a bit - Modify it w/ larger holes ? ( seems to produce decent amount of vapor though )
I'm at a loss ..

If it's getting enough liquid that you're not getting a burnt taste, a bigger hole may cause flooding. You could try taking a non-powered hit, that is draw on it without firing the button, to draw in a bit more liquid. It may also be the brand of carto you are using in the tank, many carto fans prefer the ones from Products

Another possibility is you just like clearos better than cartos...:) Many vapers like the carto / carto tank combination for flavor, others (myself included) find an off taste from the filler. There are pluses and minuses to both systems, neither are perfect.

Clearos almost always provide a fuller flavor. The carto you're using may just need to spend time absorbing the juice, but that depends on how it's filled. I had cartos that opened up at the mouth end so that you could drip juice into the polyfill. After they were "filled" they had to sit with the mouth end up so that the juice could seep down to the wick. Even a fully saturated carto will not provide the same flavor as a clearo, and the fact that your clearo is dual coil makes it that much more powerful in terms of vapor and maybe flavor as well.

Thanks folks !
Apparently I didn't prime the carto sufficiency & was a bit toasted from the get - go.
Put a new one in, primed it carefully & let it sit a few minutes. It's much, much better now.
Rookie mistake I suppose.
Actually liking it a lot now, nice & smooth, real good vapor production from such a small tank/carto & a slightly sweeter flavor than the same juice in the dual coil clearo. Yum.

Glad it's working for out you. I use Smok XL cartos and IBtanked. I'm considering adding shorties and a hafling tank for when I want to run the Sigelei V3 in 18350 mode.

I'm putting that halfling tank in the 'purchasing error' category, or at least the teeny little 15mm one that I bought.
It simply doesn't hold any juice - lasts 30 minutes at best. Even as an emergency / stealth unit its barely marginal due to the non existent capacity. It's cool sure, but useless mostly.
That's a bummer :( Live and learn I guess.

I was stuck on the shorty cartos without a tank for quite a while. The short length and proximity of the coil makes for a nice warm vape. I'm glad you figured out your issue, priming tanks cartos makes all the difference. I've been guilty the process along and it usually ends with a tossed carto.

You will find a definite difference between cartos and clearos, however. I currently have a Protank and a carto tank in rotation with the same juice in both and it's amazing the difference in flavor.
