Well, I read the threads about sourcing PG from your local compounding pharmacy...and the suggestions to just keep your damn mouth shut when you're buying it.

Thought I'd take the honest approach, and true to form...shot myself in the foot. I think people prefer being lied to.

Called up and asked if they could order some PG for me. Said I was going to try and quit smoking with a vaporizer and was going to use the PG to cut my nicotine juice down step by step. The first few people didn't know what I was talking about so they'd have the person that makes the orders call me when she got in.

Next morning, get a call saying they have a one liter bottle and it's 16 bucks. Set it up like a prescription so it's sitting at the front counter drop by.

Get a call an hour or so later from the pharmacist.

"You're the guy that's going to smoke this stuff?"

"Yeah...one of those electronic cigarettes. The nicotine levels are kind of high so I'm going to use it to dilute the juice. Step myself down gradually."

Told him about the juice, how it was PG based with nicotine in suspension.

Pointed out the studies showing no problems inhaling the vapor in rats and monkeys, that it had some medicinal qualities, and is already in the cigarette tobacco I smoke.

He had serious doubts about whether he would recommend it. Told him I didn't need his recommendation, but that he had to agree it was safer than smoking these cigarettes.

Got told that they use PG as a wetting agent for prescriptions, and as a solvent. (I actually heard the lightbulb turn on in his head at that point). Oh, that's why it's being used. A solvent. Well, I'm not going to sell this to you. Even USP PG has preservatives added to it, and it's just not been proven safe.

"What about Vegetable Glycerine"...I asked...and he sounded a bit more approving of that...since it's a food grade item. Probably because he didn't have to sell it to me.

Fine, I said...I was just trying to keep my money in town, but to be honest I can get a gallon jug of it mail ordered for half the price of your liter.

He ended the conversation apologizing and suggested that I didn't want to be a guinea pig.

I should have kept my damn mouth shut. Oh well. Wouldn't be the first time my honesty has led to trouble. Should just start bull****ting everyone about everything, that's what they really want.

So. PG or VG? Pros and cons I've read about...VG better vapor, but kills atties quicker...

Some of you guys have to have a feeling about this. What do you think is going to end up being the safest, PG or VG? I'm already convinced either one will be a safer alternative to smoking for the few months I plan on catering to this nicotine addiction.

Sorry you had such a response from your local pharmacy.

I was thinking of the same thing whether to tell the truth or not when asking for glycerine at the local Walgreens. I guess they're just curious about it as maybe not many people come asking for PG or VG. I was hesitant but decided to go for the truth. The pharmacist on duty was very helpful and tried looking on the shelves with me to see if they could find it as they showed it was stocked on their computer. When she couldn't find it, she tried looking in the back to see if they had any spare, then looked it up on the computer to see if she could order it in for me. She offered to order it for me but recommended I also check out Walmart or a hobby store that was nearby.

I guess some people are just more sympathetic than others.

I'm just going to tell them I work on cars and I want it for a coolant blend (it's healthier then anti-freeze. They'll think i'm green or something.). I'm a great liar when it comes to things that I feel are no one elses business. i prefer to be honest but in this day and age it's near impossible. To many judgemental SOB's running around these days.
