To be entirely honest, from the provided picture that positive pole itself looks fine. What looks damaged is the top most portion of the battery wrapper and the black insulator disk. The VTC positive poles SHOULD be flat, when you over-tighten them they become dished and dent inward, I have several batteries I have thrown out because of that but it does NOT look like what is going on with the pictured battery.
Question, do you remove the batteries from your charger by using your fingernail to grasp the top edge? That's what that damage looks like to me(I've done it), or do you have a mod that interferes with that area of the battery?
Edit: If you're curious before you throw it out take the wrapper off it and do a proper inspection. These wrappers are pretty cheap and not as thick as they could be so they can become damaged quite easily, which is why replacement shrink-wrap is available. It is entirely possible that the batteries are completely fine other than the wrapper, everyone around here freaks out over batteries like they're IED's or something...
To some extant i would agree with you. BUT.
Green wrapper is too dark then what Sony wrapper uses and its clear indication when cameras flash is used to take a pic. With flash, green color on VTC batteries should be washed out, especially when OP had the batteries for more then a year. Mother nature is great at oxidation combined with UV rays.
The green and black plastic is too conkeyved(sp) around positive post, unless OP has bear claws for finger nails as he removed the batteries from charger and the mod.

pic example of green vtc batteries using flash.
Google image Sony VTC and none of them have such a dark shade of green wrapper.
OP batteries are pine dark green. And IF OP abused the batteries by constantly over heating them, the green wrapper would be much lighter in color.
Further more, the top positive metal on the battery has extensive metal wear and in the center, there is an indentation dead center, similar to what you would see from a firing pin hitting a primer, or a screw that was forced in to the battery.
My 2 month old Samy 25r have zero wear on the both sides of the metal contacts.
