Should I give it to him?

My son sort of half heartedly wishes to give up smoking. He has tried patches and those didn't work at all. I gave him my Green Smoke cigalikes and those didn't cut it either. So without telling him I bought him an iStick 20 and a nautilus mini thinking if he got the real benefit of more or less proper vaping he might stick with it. I even make my own juice so I can keep him happily supplied.

The equipment is due to arrive any day now but after what happened yesterday I'm almost having second thoughts about giving it to him when it does arrive. We know not even regulated mods are 100% safe. I can live through my own accidents but if something happened to my son because of something I gave him I would not be able to live with it.

Is this just PTSD on my part? What do you think?

PTSD on your part. The iStick 50W is the only model currently known to explode with any regularity.

im not familiar at all with the istick20w, but regulated mods are more safe often than not, they usually contain many failsafes such as reverse battery protection/power cutoff/short circuit protection. It looks like the istick has power cutoff, short circuit protection and low voltage battery protection.

the incident you had with the smpl yesterday is basically on the other side of the spectrum. regulated mod issues are usually caused by manufacturer defects (which usually word gets out on unsafe devices, or the company fixes them), mech mod issues/accidents are more-so user based incidents. With the protection that comes in a regulated device, unless your son really wants to try to hurt himself, he more than likely wont with an istick 20 unless he decides to take it apart or put it in a microwave or something.

That's the exact setup I gave my son. I gave him the Batitude summary on saftey as well. No problems so far.

I have 2 istick 20's and feel comfortable using them. I am sure the thoughts of what happened to you yesterday will stick around for a while but I think you now know why it happened and now know how to avoid it happening again. It was just the istick 50 that folks were having problems with.

I'm pretty sure the only thing you have to worry about with the 20 is stripping the threads. I used the enclosed adapter and the beauty ring from the Nautilus. Recently I got a bending adaptor.

I'd give it a few days and a few deep, diaphragmatic breathing sessions.

You are gun shy due to what happened yesterday. It happens to all of us after a frightening incident. I had a bad rear end collision a few years ago, was hit by a snow plow hard enough to lift my truck off the ground and slam it back down. For weeks I was very nervous about being hit from behind again. I would even shake if someone approached me fast from behind.

There have been very few failures of the 20W istick. The most common issue was the 510 threads getting stripped. Its been out since September with a good track record as far as safety goes. I would feel safe giving it to a loved one. In fact, I gave mine to my best friend, of more than 30 years. Now that 50W I also gave her...well, let's say I have kept her up to date on the issues.

You are in the exact same circumstance as a friend of mine. Her daughter is a smoker, wanting somewhat to quit. My friend asked my advice on a safe setup. I recommend the istick 30 and nautilus mini. She bought her two. Gave her all the info she needed. (My friend is an experienced vapor also.) She had concerns, being her daughter knew nothing. And everything involves some risk. But she knew it was safe. And ANYTHING was better than smoking! That was about two weeks ago. Her daughter is now 100% smoke free! And the last I heard she herself was converting a fellow coworker! She loves her istick, or as she keeps calling it "estick" I say YES! Give it to your son. I hope you get as good as results!

I assume he is an adult and can make his own decisions.
My answer is a no, but it's an almost yes maybe.
It's how you give him that matters.
Set it up and let him have a try.
If he's interested enough then you have a starting point.
If he's interested enough to get one himself, then it's a no-brainer and he might as well take yours, and you can tell him all about what happened yesterday and show him the skidmarks.

I fell asleep once sitting in a chair with a cig in my hand. I woke up when my hand dropped down onto my leg and the cig burned through my trouser leg, in about the same location as your injury actually. It could have dropped down the side of the cushion and set my chair on fire. Happens to smokers every day. So think about harm reduction, whatever tiny risk there is from that regulated mod you are still likely making their life safer. I say go for it.

Thanks all- yes I am an gun shy - probably more today than I even was yesterday.

And yes of course, he is an adult and can decide for himself. He does occasionally take a puff off my own set-up and says it tastes nice, especially if I have something like lemon meringue pie or something in the tank. I guess I will give it to him when it comes (once I've checked everything is in order) and tell him to keep it if he takes to it and to return it to me if he doesn't. If he really took up vaping I think it would make his wife even happier than himself.

Yesterday? Maybe so. I recall commenting on a reply about the number of incidents increasing due to the increasing number of new vapers starting out in high powered vaping. Was that related to it?

I have the 30 and 50 and luckily no issues so far. I have silicone covers for both of them although I don't know if that is a good or bad thing. I have only heard of the 50 causing issues so I think he will be fine as long as he takes care of it.
