Yet another vote to increase nic to 24 mg. I remember one of the things I missed about smoking was that quick "rush" of the nic hit. Also missed the MAOI's in tobacco but nothing to be done for that. Anyway, to make the switch, he has number one, want to switch, but number two get enough nic fast enough that the "something is missing" feeling is reduced as much as possible.

This is what I was thinking; I had to consciously remind myself to slow it down, not try to hit it like a cigarette, hold it in mouth/throat a bit, and exhale via the nose.... when i wasn't doing those things, I was still forced to have 1 cigarette in the morning, though I vaped all the rest of the day... but once I paid attention to doing everything I could to maximize the nic hit, I didn't need that morning smoke anymore.

I wouldn't recommend WTA for someone just starting out -- the fact is, most vapers are fine with just nicotine, providing they can get enough of it, fast enough. WTA is only useful to those who actually have an equal or greater dependence on those other alkaloids, and we're definitely a minority. Most of us do have to work at it, at first, and being a dual user for a while is no sin; reducing the number smoked, that's a great thing, so there's no need to feel like the effort is a failure just because someone still has a cigarette or 10 -- it took me a month of gradually substituting vaping for more and more smoking, and doing it that way made it fairly easy.
