To be fair, and I stand by my first post, but here on Venus I do have an Alien (the name felt appropriate) and an AL85 from when they first same out and was able to snag on sale. Both still work just fine, and their finish is also good despite their age. So it is a real QC issue. If you get a good one you're OK, if not, you have very little recourse. If finding gear is hard and you're being charged top dollar, I'd keep looking.

Do you think I should give smok a new chance?

The short answer: No

The longer answer: Hell No

Ok, for realz, for someone just wanting to test out vaping to see if it appeals to them and do it really cheap I guess I could see that use case knowing if vaping works for that person they will invest in something better very shortly.

Most of Smok products are substandard for both use and longevity, but there are a few exceptions that are really not bad products at all. But generally you are better off looking elsewhere unless you have done your research and have decided the Smok product you want to purchase has favorable reviews by actual users (not youtube shills). ECF is a very good place to find that out. Just approach Smok products with skepticism and expect it to be a product you really don't want until proven otherwise. But, there are a few good products they sell. It's up to you to ask questions about specific models or do your own research before purchasing... just like you should do before any vaping device purchase.

While there are a few good devices Smok sells, the majority are not worth the money. I think that is the reason for the generic "No" answer you will generally receive here on ECF.

Just don't do it!

@TheRapidPro, if you let us know where you're based and what vaping style you are we can provide you with some ideas of setups and possibly places to get things from.
OP has stated, Brazil.

Well, I have a Smok Nord AIO that works fine and I love it. I’ll probably replace it when it dies, but it can’t be someone’s daily drive. I don’t trust Smok enough for that. It’s a 4th backup for me, but I break it out when I want a lighter vape. Don’t know what OP will do in his country, though. It may be Smok for him or nothing. Maybe he wanted to hear Smok wasn’t a pos vape company.

Regards,

Which us their problem. It's hit or miss. Both the AL85 and Alien were pretty well done by Smok. There were lots of finish issues (QC Again) but the mods themselves were fine. I think they were among the more popular offerings they had. They even launched an Alien 2 recently.

Their biggest weakness that stresses QC to the point of uselessness is the high turnover and churning out a new design twice a week. If they had a longer release cycle their problems might clear up. But this business model seems to work for them, but long term will undermine their market share as quality becomes a bigger issue for buyers as regulations tighten and folks would rather bet on longevity over light shows and Transformer looking boxes.

Then there are the tanks with a new lineup of coils with utterly unhelpful names released as often if not more so than mods.

Smok Grip $89 ...you must be in Oz where a dollar is not always a dollar. I have a X-Priv which is a bit old hat these days the Smok Species I think is the best current and very easy to use with a touch display. My Smok mods have performed well...no problems...they work. Price wise the Vaporesso Armour Pro and Vandy Vape Pulse Dual are worth a look, also The Geekvape mods.

Bubble wrap filler, jeepers. Could be fake but knowing Smok it may not be. So No. No No.

I had a Smok pen thing aeons ago, it leaked like a colander. The replacement leaked like a fishing net. They set a high standard for rubbish.

I still have it somewhere, I'll tear it apart if I can find it.

totally on the point, i like the simple things, the AL85 is a interesting device, well made since i have taken apart 2 of them, and now still working, actually i did repaired one, my friend is kinda broke, so i did give mine for the time he needs it, it need to be repainted, and maybe a better cleaning, is working flawless,

the x-priv is not that great unit, i have broken and pretty damaged internals, rust, broken clips and housing parts, screen is fully working, i have it as spare parts unit, we dont know when comes another for parts or repair,

the main problem is well stated with smok mods and others, poor quality control, indeed, this brand have a great coverage of vape market but with bad or low quality products, is a famous brand with lack of quality....

Same for pods, is a Russian-roulette to get a quality product or maybe a long lasting one indeed, so, is better to stay away from them for a while!
