If the voltage of a lithium-ion cell drops below a certain level, it's ruined. Lithium-ion batteries age. They only last two to three years, even if they are sitting on a shelf unused. So do not "avoid using" the battery with the thought that the battery packwill last five years.I have several devices with internal batteries that have made their way into the vapocalypse stash. How often should I use them?

its more or less 2-3 years unused.. not entire lifespan of the battery but if stored optimally unused at proper voltage 2-3 years without any maitenance will render them useless.. also dont forget that under voltaged li-ion cells even if brought back to life have a higher potential for a thermal runawayI agree they will lose some capacity over time even if stored at an optimal SOC (say 40%). But 2-3 years is mighty pessimistic. I have some rarely used cordless tools that are approaching 6 years and the batteries still perform decently.
"Stored Optimally" pretty much precludes "under voltaged"its more or less 2-3 years unused.. not entire lifespan of the battery but if stored optimally unused at proper voltage 2-3 years without any maitenance will render them useless.. also dont forget that under voltaged li-ion cells even if brought back to life have a higher potential for a thermal runaway
the original quote did not account for someone properly maintaining voltage needed to prolong life"Stored Optimally" pretty much precludes "under voltaged"![]()

Exactly, not something i would put with MRE's and dry storage...I have had cordless power tool batteries go bad that weren't used for a while stored fully charged. Rechargeable batteries can last as long as they want or kiss the ghost at the most inopportune time. Same with devices with built in batteries there is an expected life and how long they last.
You know, my wife didnt appreciate them as much as i did/do, then again she is in the ARMY and i am a USMC Vet. something to be said i suppose considering when it comes to food i am WAY more picky... yet when it comes to calories and survival.... well anything will do.. i despise coffee yet ate dry coffee grounds for the calories/caffeineMRE's! LMAO
I have one internal battery mod. I'm using it till it becomes a paper weight.I have several devices with internal batteries that have made their way into the vapocalypse stash. How often should I use them?

I don't like MRE's either.MRE's! LMAO
I will never say that there is any single source as an end all be all source of knowledge on any particular topic, but for someone wanting to know the most basic of questions it is a good start to getting feet wet and gain a little more understanding, especially if previous knowledge was nothing at all. Personally when doing my research i prefer no fewer than 3 reliable sources and then form my own opinion on whatever the topic is, preferably at least 5 sources. One example why I don't like battery U for an info source.
In this case it's a wide variable that needs attention to learn how each pack or cell will react.
Yet it's expressed as a hard rule that applies to lithium batteries, period.
And it damn sure doesn't in any way address any cell affixed to a circuit.

There are a lot of questionable wisdom on batteries around the Net. So, just some common sense.I have several devices with internal batteries that have made their way into the vapocalypse stash. How often should I use them?

You might as well use them if you like them. Eventually the batteries won't work any more. I have an Istiick 50 watt. I'll keep it even if the battery is no good. If it were eventually my last working mod I'm confident I could find an electronics repaiir person to replace the battery with like kind and quality. That would cost more than a new mod but we're assuming a time when such mods are not legally available. No reason to discard mods that might be repairable if needs be someday.I have several devices with internal batteries that have made their way into the vapocalypse stash. How often should I use them?

what is your take on the OP's question?
