Hello guys,
Just getting into coil building. I have a sentinel mod with a nimbus. I bought some 30 ga kanthal today and I'm using cotton wicking. I built a dual coil setup with 9 wraps, it read at .9 ohms. When I use it, it fires and vapes decently but I was just wondering why my coils aren't glowing red. I'm not sure if they're supposed to or not I just know the coils that came with the nimbus did. Just want to make sure I'm doing everything right and safe. I've watched a ton of videos and read articles on coil building but I could not find anything that mentions this specifically. Thanks guys.

If the coil is glowing red when you have it wicked and juiced you have a problem. Usually it is a issue with your wick (too much will choke it up and prevent juice from properly flowing to the coil, too little will have a gap between the wick and coil in spots, causing that part of the coil to get too hot). It also can be caused by sloppy coil wrapping, again causing a gap between the wick and coil in spots.

You want to avoid this, especially if you are using cotton wicks. If you have a hotspot with a cotton wick it will burn almost instantaneously. Silica is more forgiving since it won't actually burn when dry, but you will get a really nasty hit and may scorch the wick.
