Should we consider e-cigarettes the fifth great invention of China?

I'm not sure that gunpowder was a great invention:evil:
but if it depended on me,I would definitely reward it a Nobel prize for health.

like other great Nobel prize ideas,it would probably be received after the acknowledgement of the medical community, that is anxiously waiting for more evidence about the benefits of the e-cig,that will surely surface up in the near future.

its only a matter of time.

the funny thing about this invention,is that it would probably save more lives, then those lost by gunpowder:)

karma is ....., isn't that right?

Yes it should be. I also agree with the Nobel as well, although we should probably wait to see the actual results, rather than our assumptions. If it was awarded a Nobel; and all us vapers dropped dead the next day, it would make them look bad! Lol

And the gunpowder thing; there would be much less roads and railways if it wasn't available. Not to forget the beautiful FireWorks, as well!!

Relax, Enjoy!

We'll give Herbert Gilbert the Nobel for the idea and Hon Lik the Nobel for actually building it, OK?

I couldnt read this post without laughing, because it reminds me an old joke:p

Al: (to his wife Peggy): "babe...if only I would win the lottery"...
    Peggy: "then?"
Al: "then I can see in my mind how we can buy that blue ferrari we are dreaming about... while I'm driving, the window is wide open, you and the kids are all happy and smiling, and the dog sits in the front chair next to me,enjoing the ride"...
Peggy: "wait...what? why is the dog sitting in front and not me"?
Al: "because I don't want him drooling on the back seat".
Peggy: "no way I'm sitting behind! I want to move to the front"!
Al: "forget it woman! the dog stays in the front"!!!
Peggy: "forget it? then you forget sex"!!!
Al (seriously ...... of) : "get the F@#$@#$% out of the car"!!!!

From Four Great Inventions - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"The Four Great Inventions are the inventions that are celebrated in Chinese culture for their historical significance and serve as symbols of China's advanced science and technology.[1]

I mean, it saves lives right?

In all fairness the compass and paper were also invented independently in Mexico around the same time! :) But Mexico can't claim the e-cig, which is currently my favorite invention! But on the other hand, tobacco came from the New World and "cigar" is based on a Mayan word. Not that I'm an advocate of smoking (anymore), but there would be no e-cig without the original invention of the cigar.

Maybe so, but there would be a whole lot more mountaintops left in Appalachia. And less unemployment. You can always chisel away a roadbed without blasting. That just makes it quicker and saves time and labor costs to the contractors.
All in all, I'd consider the invention of gunpowder as a net loss.

I'd put the e-cig fourth on the list, before gunpowder. I'm not so sure they invented the compass though, at least not a compass that was reliable enough to do any good. I read an entire book about the compass (called, strangely enough "Compass") and I don't remember its invention being attributed to the Chinese. Wiki, IMO, is not the place to find out for sure. The Chinese always get credited for things they didn't invent, or didn't invent in any useful way. Seismometers for example.

Actually the concept was first patented in 1963 by Herbert Gilbert in the US
    Patent US3200819 - SMOKELESS NON-TOBACCO CIGARETTE - Google Patents
Only time will tell if US courts will uphold the Ruyan patent, it's sure to be challenged. If the Gilbert patent is upheld, the technology would then become "open source".

Ruyan has already won their patent claim a couple months ago. They're busy being patent trolls, collecting "settlements" from e-cig companies who decide it's less expensive to pay them off than to challenge them in court. They've become one of those companies whose assets consist almost entirely of a portfolio of patents and whose revenue is largely derived from enforcing those patents on companies that actually make something. A pox on Ruyan. BTW, they've changed their name to "Dragonlite" or some such fantasy game name.

There will be no nobel peace price. The NPP committee is a bunch of fools and corrupt politicians. They actually gave the main prize to Barack Obama. Before he was president.

Excellent point, Sneak. Besides, I don't care as long as the give algore the prize for inventing the Internet. :D
