What ecig kit do you have? The one that helped me out in the beginning was the Ego-T. :D
For the Ego you can get a 1100 mah battery that will last about a day (depending on how heavy you vape)
As for throat hit, usually the higher the nicotine will help with that, I like the tobacco liquids at gotvapes.com like the Tobacco Americano or the Lasso.. Hope this helps :) And welcome to the ECF!

Welcome to the ECF. I'm glad you made a decision to get away from smoking tobacco. Using a Personal Vaporizer as an alternative is healthier and a lot more enjoyable.

There is a lot of information here, and it can be a bit overwhelming choosing the right PV and juice. However, it can also be easy if you choose good equipment and take your time in learning to use it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Recommendation for those who don't want to read the whole thing:

This is your shopping list:
  • 1 standard 3.7v mod such as the Indulgence V3 or E-Power
  • 2 batteries for your mod
  • 1 battery charger
  • 2 packs of Boge 2.0 Ohm cartomizers for trying juices
  • 1 carto tank
  • Several sample packs of juice to try out

I know, I know; OMG! he's recommending a mod to newbies! My take is:
  • Small batteries are going to be frustrating and may lead to failure
  • eGo, Kgo and the like cost more money to replace batteries and don't have replaceable parts
  • A good mod will give a better vape, last longer and will be more likely to help you kick the smoking habit
  • Dripping is confusing and difficult for many people. Cartos are cheap, and you can use them to try a sample. If you don't like it, throw the carto and sample out
  • Filling cartomizers is a pain, a tank is easy to fill, lasts all day and needs to be replaced less often. Once you find your all-day vape, this is the way to go

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Many kits you will find online are made up of the following parts:
  • Battery
  • Charger
  • Cartridge (cart)
  • Atomizer (atty)

While an atomizer can be handy for testing new juices by direct dripping, this configuration is difficult to use and tends to perform poorly. The first thing you will want to get with your kit is a pack or two of cartomizers (cartos). Cartomizers have their own atomizer and cartridge in one piece, have a more consistent vape, and hold more juice.

Atomizers and cartomizers have a resistance rating in Ohms. You cannot use low resistance attys and cartos on a small battery as they pull too much power and will kill your small battery. You need a battery 450 Mah or higher for low-resistance attys and cartos.

The basic types of cartomizers are:
  • Standard resistance (usually 3.0 ohms)
  • Low resistance (as low as 1.5 ohms)
  • Dual-coil cartomizers
  • Cartomizer tank

The standard resistance cartos are the only cartos you can use on a small battery PV.

Low resistance cartos give more vapor and a hotter vape. The lower the resistance, the bigger the battery you need. For an even hotter vape with more vapor you need more wattage.

A cartomizer tank has a cartomizer inside a small tank. The cartomizer has a small hole punched in it to soak juice into the carto so that you can just fill the tank when it gets close to empty.

The basic types of personal vaporizers in use are:
  • Small battery, cigarette-sized
  • Big battery, cigar-sized
  • Standard modification (mod)
  • Variable-voltage modification (VV mod)
  • Bottom-feeder modification
  • Box modification

The small battery PV's are meant to simulate a regular cigarette as much as possible. These can be convenient as they are small and easy to carry. However, they have a very short battery life and require you to constantly have a battery charging.

The big battery types have a much longer battery life so that you can vape one PV all day without charging.

A standard mod has removable batteries of varying sizes. This enables you to have a PV that can stay charged for very long periods, and the batteries are removable and cheap which saves money. Many mods have replaceable parts so that if, for instance, a switch fails you just buy a new switch and replace it.

Variable voltage mods allow you to adjust the voltage depending on the carto and juice you are using at the time. This allows great flexibility, but you also need to have a workable understanding of voltage and resistance. Not recommended for new users.

A bottom-feeder mod is usually a box mod with a small juice bottle attached. You squeeze (squonk) the bottle to fill the attached cartomizer. Once you get used to sqonking the right amount of juice into the carto, you can get a very consistent vape all day long.

A box mod is just that: a box that contains a battery or batteries, an activation switch and a connection to screw your cartomizer or atty into. These can be small or big and blocky. They can also be variable-voltage.

The next thing you will need is juice. This is probably the most difficult part. Every one's tastes are different, and your tastes will change over time. You may even have periods where you can't taste anything, or everything tastes terrible. You may have a hard time finding juices you can vape all day. The best thing to do is try small samples until you find something you like, and then stock up on those. You will just have to experiment.

One important thing to know about juice: no juice is going to taste like burning tobacco. You aren't burning anything, you are creating vapor. The "tobacco flavored" juices taste more like chewing or pipe tobacco than cigarettes.

This is just my personal opinion, take it with a grain of salt. You are the only one who can decide what's best for you.

Finally: quitting smoking is difficult no matter what method you use. Take it easy on yourself. Take your time and if you still need to smoke as you're learning; go ahead and smoke. You will set yourself up for failure if you stress yourself out. Be patient, and you will get there.

A good vendor is Liberty-Flights.co.uk. They call things by their real names/numbers, their descriptions are correct and not bs, and they state their warranties.

I use their US store a lot. But in the UK they are a bit crippled on Ego stuff because Janty (the designer) is a UK corp and gave exclusive distribution rights for some Ego parts (ones they designed like tanks and tank atomizers) in the UK to iVapour.co.uk (a shop I've heard both good and bad about). In any case, at least 1/2 of the people who buy Ego-T with its more expensive tank atomizers and tanks end up just using it as a normal Ego with cartomizers. Liberty-Flights does carry Riva 510 which is a popular Ego clone and the Riva 510 SE there is a bit more voltage than Ego. They may also carry some mods. Another place to check is Cloud 9 Vaping which I nothing carries at least one mod. but other than that I know little about UK shops. UK people will help you.

Whatever you get, I recommend you get something with a standard threading, preferably one of the two most popular threadings 510 or KR808D-1/901, with manual batteries, and cartomizers available. Most people here find cartomizers the most convenient and consistent way to vape their everyday thinner juices.

BTW once you have 5 non-spammed posts or replies in New members and then a 1 hour wait, you'll be able to post in the UK forum in National Forums as well as PM and buy things in the Buying & Selling UK classified and vendor sections.

Hi mooreted

Thanks for that humongous info! Yeah, I'll try modding (DIY?) at some point in near future, once I get to know all these various parts & terminology... then can identity the parts in the shops.

Hi, I see you want a cig lookalike, I bought a few small 510 batteries both manual and auto but didn't really get along with them so I ordered a couple of volt batteries which are kr808 from smokeless image. They are in the states but I absolutely love them and the shipping isn't bad either, it cost about 4 quid to the uk and took a week to arrive. The best cartos I have found for them is the kanger kr808d cartos which you can get from most vendors. I also have a riva 1100 which I just use at home the battery will last me about a day and a half but the volts battery life is not that bad, one battery will last me a 6 hour shift (Its never run out so it could last longer) so I think they are quite good for their size. As long as you have a few batteries you will be fine.

Hey guys, just update:

Yeah, freedomvape delivered extremely FAST! virtually next day (ordered Fri, receive Mon morning).
Ego Riva is quite good in that it looks stylish and they give 2 batteries (looks like lightsabres :)) and 5 cartridges.

Also, the cheap swapsmoking starter cig atomizer stopped working :( and I haven't even used all the 10 foiled-sealed carts that came with it.

Anyway, filling the carts is totally new to me so I'll describe what I did and please give feedback.

ego Riva cartridge, non-mouth-piece end has condom so I take that off. What looks inside is some wick. So I drip my eLiquid onto wick slowly until it looks soaked.

Also, I accidently ordered swapsmoking mega battery (boge cartomizer) starter kit too. That arrived and looks like a long thin white cig. Filling that up was even weirder. I followed "A PBusardo Tutorial : Filling Boge 510 Cartomizers" from youtube video. The thing I don't get is, the initial soaking seems to take a large amount of juice (longer vaping). Then the top ups (or top offs) are just small amounts..... (shorter vaping). So if we wanted longer vaping, do we do the initial soaking again?

What is the best normal recommended way to fill cartomizers? Also, can cartos be used again and again? As well as the normal cartridges?

Also, the vodka/red bull flavour (from freedomvape)... doesn't really taste/smell like it... just taste/smell like burnt fumes?

Also the plain red bull flavour (from swap smoke) taste/smell like mild cigar.
but the plain cigar flavour (from swap smoke) does really taste smell like cigar! (swap smoke also gave me extra high nic when I ordered med!)

The easiest way to fill a cartomiser has to be the condom method: Filling 510 electronic cigarette cartomizers using the "condom" or "push" method - YouTube

You're correct, you fill the cartomiser the first time with about 25 drops then only around 4 - 8 after that. It's not so much to "fill" it, more to keep it wet as the filler inside the cartomiser will already be damp from the first fill.

You can use cartomisers for a while, but usually you'll see about a solid week out of one. It depends on useage and the thickness of the juice you put in it and quality of the cartomiser.

For carts you mean an atomiser? In that it has two pieces to it instead of one. For atomisers you'd want to put about 4 drops straight into the atomiser first time then put liquid into the cartridge until it looks wet.

Atomisers need to be refilled a lot more often than cartomisers. I get around 6 - 10 puffs out of one to two drops. Most will not use the cartridge with wadding inside and will instead drip the liquid straight onto the atomiser as it can be quite slow to wick liquid from the cartridge into the atomiser.

Cheers leftfeild for the reply.

I also notice that the cartomiser & the atty look like I can connect to the ego riva? Is this okay to do? And vice versa... connecting the atty to the mega battery (280 MaH mega size battery (86mm))

And maintainance is something I need to learn/know about. Both the ego riva & that mega battery 280MaH I bought both have manual button. I usually hold it down for say 4-5 seconds. How long should I wait before I can press it again? I think I already burnt out one of the attys that came with the mega battery :(

If the atty and cartoz can be interchanged, that means the USB battery chargers can interchange too...

It's strange coz the USB that came with ega Riva label has DESAN USB CHARGER DC4.2V 420mA
however the mega battery USB charger label says: Model: EGO-USB DC4.2V 300mA

It's ok to use one atomiser or cartomiser on any battery that can support it. If it fits, it's alright to use it on either battery.

I wouldn't mix up the chargers though. Charge the ego with the ego charger and the other mega one with the mega charger.

You're ok to press the button for a while, and you don't really need to stop unless the atomiser is really hot and it's warming up the battery. It's more important to keep the atomiser with enough juice in it than it is not to use it so often. As long as it has enough liquid in it you shouldn't need to take long breaks from vaping for normal resistance atomisers.

Using the smaller charger on the ego riva will just take longer.
Using the ego riva 420 in place of the 300 is likely to blow up the smaller battery.

Also, regarding unintentional mixing from reuse of cartomizers/atty carts....
I received 2 extra high nic (when I clearly ordered med)... but couldn't wait to try out so started using them anyway... now some new flavours arrived... am wondering, is it safe to "push method" fill the cartomizer with some other liquid? would I create some sort of weird chemical poison?

Also, please tell me how I can start posting in the other forums....

cheers

It should be completely safe to refill your cartomisers with any e-liquid. The worst that could happen would be creating a weird flavour due to the mix :D

Now that you have posted over 5 posts, you should be able to access the other forums, once ECF's software updates - usually about an hour after your 5th post.
