Sick!

:( My pv and supplies was shipped out today and now I'm sick. In a way, I'm glad that it happened before I received the pv because I would have blamed it on vaping. I read on the forum around here that some of the side effects can be similar to what I'm feeling like now - achy/feverish, sore throat, headache

So, I'm hoping I'll feel better by the time my new equipment gets here but if I don't, would it be a good idea to hold off on starting it until my cold/flu passes? I don't know if I can handle a *more* sore throat! Of course, no matter how bad I feel I still smoke analogs when I'm sick :?: and yes, they make me feel worse. Addiction sucks!! I was just hoping to deal with the effects of quitting analogs without the added trouble of a real life cold/flu  Waaaah!

I've been vaping for awhile now and recently got a small cold/flu. One thing that really surprised me is that I could still vape. I used to have a hard time smoking when I was sick. I mixed up some strong menthol in my juices (really strong) and vaped like normal. The menthol even acted like "vicks" and helped keep my nose clear and comfortable. I was amazed.

I'm not sure if a new vaper will have the same results as there is a "trial and error" period with the devices and I think learning to vape with congestion would be detrimental to the experience. I just wanted to put it out there that highly mentholated juices are like chicken soup for your vaporizer.

Wow! That's really good to know about the menthol. That's what I was worried about - having the trial and error period be detrimental. But I did just smoke an analog and it burned the h*ll out of my throat :nah: . I seem to be at the peak of the fever stage right now so maybe by the time my stuff arrives it will feel better to vape than to smoke. I guess I'll give it a try and if it seems detrimental, I'll wait.

I caught a cold about a week after I started vaping. Having once been a 2.5 pack-a-day smoker, my colds usually lasted a good 10 days, followed by a couple more of hacking up crap. But the cold I caught while vaping was history after only 5 days. I'd vape.

That's amazing! I have a lot of chronic illnesses but I haven't actually had a cold in over a year and a half! The last one I had lasted me around 45 days!! I'm not exaggerating, I swear! My immune system is one of the first things to be attacked when my endocrine balance is out of whack. But shortly after that, I started some holistic treatments. I am assuming the reason I never got sick again was all the vitamins/supplements I was taking. However, not having a job for so long and all the serious financial problems I have had over the summer caused me to cut out my meds/vitamins/supplements because I can't afford them (funny how I still managed to afford cigarettes though). Stress makes my other illnesses much worse, so I'm not surprised I got sick. The timing of it just sucks. I did the best I could for the longest time to put my health and meds/vitamins/supplements first and foremost but it got to the point where I had to choose between rent/food and treatments. I expect the money I save once I start vaping and the resulting health benefits to enable me to start at least some of my treatments again. I'll give vaping a try no matter how I feel and just play it by ear. I hadn't even thought of the various flavors having a holistic effect. These things impress me more and more!

I had bronchitis when I got my PV and it normally takes me months to get over (I have Fibromyalgia and Lupus), but I started vaping the day I got my PV and within about 4 days the bronchitis was almost gone and within a week I was totally well. I've never gotten over bronchitis that fast. Plus, since I started vaping I've had a cold that went away in less than a week instead of turning into bronchitis like it normally does. I don't know if it was because I was no longer smoking, or if it's the antimicrobial properties of the PG, but whatever it is, I know I feel better than I have since I started smoking 23 years ago.

I had a cold last week...what a difference vaping made...I didn't feel like I was coughing up a lung...and it lasted only 3 days!!!!!!!!!

Pandora, hope you feel better soon.

One of the great pluses of vaping PG based liguids is that PG kills airborne bacteria and viruses. That might be one of the reasons colds don't last as long as when we smoked. Hospitals even add it to their venilation systems for this reason. It works by dehydrating the little bugs though, so as has been advised, drink plenty of water when you start vaping.

I totally did not know that.... something new everyday... and I worked at a hospital! The bacteria comment, I knew about drinking plenty of water. :p Your throat gives you many indicators that you need a drink after your first 5 mins vaping.

I am amazed that vaping has antimicrobial properties! I wish mine would hurry up and get here now! My cold/flu has progressed into a terrible painful cough and while I am smoking less to try to save myself some extra pain, I can't help but smoke and it's making everything worse by far. My lungs aren't congested but my sinuses are draining into my throat and it HURTS. Puffs Plus with Vicks is a wonderful thing though...
