Well, I have noticed this: one battery is always slightly more discharged than the other. So over time, one might degrade faster than the other if you don't flip their spots?

If a single cell in a group of cells has an internal issue, (like quality of material), that is slightly different than the others, it's properties are always going to be different regardless of where it's placed.

Does anyone disassemble their laptop li-ion packs after recharging them and swap the cells around?

The logic for the swapping of positions in a device makes no sense whatsoever if there is no circuitry there to monitor each individual cell.

Honestly, I don't have enough knowledge to answer that question, sorry. All I can tell you is what I've noticed:

Battery in slot two is always slightly more drained when I pull them for charging. And since I flip them each time its not the same battery.
